Any chance of compiling a Linux build?
I'd be surprised if I'm the only Linux user on these forums, and I'm not sure if this runs well under WINE.
There is a Mac OSX build, so I imagine it wouldn't be hard to port since OSX is also a *nix variant.

Re: Any chance of compiling a Linux build?
If the game dev got around to making any new builds in a timely manner it would make sense to port the game to linux. Sadly, that's not the case, and he's unlikely to even fix the (actually fairly significant) issues that the mac version suffers from.
Your best bet is with configuring WINE. The one Linux-using friend that plays CC gets better performance out of Ubuntu with the newest WINE than XP, though this may be more to do with the OS overhead than with WINE itself doing a good job.

It actually runs really well under wine, I'm using linux on my laptop and though it rapes my CPU a little (100% always, gets up to 70C after about 5 mins) it performs pretty well. Just make sure you install it on a windows machine, something in the installer breaks if you try to run it through wine. USB key is generally the go.

There's always Virtual Box.

can you imagine how awful running this game under a virtual system would be? this game seems to leak memory like a sieve and has overwhelmingly poor resource usage to begin with. trying to run it on a virtualization layer would only multiply it if you're smart enough to run linux, you're smart enough to dual boot.

This would probably require a rewrite of the file system actions and network code. Also, OSX is much easier to write code for than Linux, because with OSX you get some guarantees of what hardware / libraries are already there, but with Linux... Ehhh.. Not so much

Re: Any chance of compiling a Linux build?
someone doesnt know what auto-resolving dependencies are. most packaging systems (that is, most distros) support auto-resolution because of centralized package management. yum. apt. rpm. deb. theyre all part of central systems that can resolve those library issues.
for data, its not technical difficulty--its lack of market.

I'm not too sure about this one, though I suppose *nix is the minority consumer OS, people using it are generally pretty generous. See humble indie bundle average price payed by OS: Code: Average contribution $9.17 WINDOWS: $8.05 OSX: $10.18 LINUX: $14.52 so he could probably get away with a price hike after the port anyway without the added features. I'm assuming the price to jump significantly w/ B24, but that's beside the point.. The fact that it runs fine under wine would be more of a deterrent for me

Re: Any chance of compiling a Linux build?
get, you dolt. that's contributions averaged per capita, not net market. they make $14/person, but that doesn't matter if you're off-setting that by marketing to the larger demo.
no offense man but learn 2 economy/marketing
