Re: Mechwarrior. New. Want!
So mine decided to finish downloading after I passed out at my laptop (normally my patience runs out and I power down my laptop). My first reaction from peeking at the mechlab since I was a wee boy was to run away crying from the sheer number of chassis thrown in there! There was, what? 30 or so in the stock MP4: Mercs? I suppose this means I won't be doing anymore "oh lawl, this guy just has lasers" or "feck, shotgun brawler, need to run".
If I remember right, there was only one or two kids from the old online mode who would play the lighter mechs properly. The image of a shadowcat biting your ankles and the word "Moo" ought to bring back harrowing memories to any of the old online vets here. The trick to beating them away is to stick in a bit of an assault pack, or at least close enough that another heavy mech from your team can slam a few rounds close to the little shark to scare them off.

Re: Mechwarrior. New. Want!
Hrmm, now online play isn't working. I can see the lobby, but when I join a game, it disconnects me almost immediately. And now I'm using a full team of assault mechs, mine being a Fafnir, with an Atlas, Victor, and Mauler as back-up. I keep a light, medium, and heavy just for Solaris battles, of course.

I find that ramming them at full speed is pretty effective and satisfying. You just need to do a wee bit off damage first, even if it means stopping your mech and hunting them down.

Re: Mechwarrior. New. Want!
Just finished up reacquainting myself with online play and establishing myself as a bit of a bastard. Battlesuits are way more fun that they ought to be. Annihilators and those massive railgun boats can't look down far enough to walk away fast enough to repel any ankle biters going mad with their claws (like me!). Picking out an infantry guy in King of the Hill, running through a massive firefight unnoticed, and "powering down" at the center where no one notices you sitting among the debris seemed a little unfair.
But you're right. I was stepped upon a many good times.

Re: Mechwarrior. New. Want!
I got multiplayer working, and I must say that I hate those stupid railgun sniper players. I had a match where literally, the entire enemy team was using railguns, and of course the host was on their team, and turned off overheat on weapons, so they had no heat sinks, and dual PPCs to go with their rails. It was just lame beyond all belief, I must say. Seriously, who snipes in a mech game? It just feels wrong to me.
