HRBDR RANDOM WEAPONS. Though perhaps a giant electrolaser wouldn't be unwarranted, though I figure it wouldn't be quite what you imagine here.

Well, to be honest I find the lack of more electric-based weapons in a DarkSTORM mod peculiar. I've loved all incarnations of the SHOCK mortar myself, and don't find a huge lightning gun too far fetched.

I do. What guides the electricity to targets? Without some kind of guiding ionized path (such as one caused by a laser) it'd just randomly go anywhere, potentially eve back at friendlies. Something that just spits out raw electricity is kinda useless.

Well, if you're one of the modders who likes to follow real-world physics rules in a sci-fi game, then you could always have it shoot like a giant scaled-up taser. Fire off two prongs at a target, once they impact they stick, and BuZZZAPPP, electric current overloading into the cables/tethers/etc frying the target and any onlookers unfortunate enough to be near the cables between the turtle and its target.

Also you could explain that your Darkstorm armors are electrically non-conductive and cancel out any difference in electric potential or something, saving them from the friendly-fire scenario.

Though it seems to me you just really don't want a big lightning gun, which is okay. It was a suggestion in passing.

Electricity will tend to travel via the path of least resistance, so closer targets would be targeted without some kind of guidance such as a laser's plasma channel, a wire or something else. You could theoretically just make the darkstorm armour ungrounded and it would work fairly well.

On the first point, my electrolaser is basically high-powered taser that uses an ionized path created by a high-powered laser, rather than some kind of physical conductive tether. Rather than causing a stunning constant stream, it instead releases a single large burst of electricity, better suited for permanently damaging and killing.

As for the non-conductive bit, you might notice that the green armors are the ones resistant to electricity. The armor has to be specifically constructed (in a more expensive manner) to be that way though, hence the different versions.

Well, if it was some kind of flat-out flying tank thing (not just hovering, but flying, like the Yosei) it could have some kind of electrical weapon attached to the bottom that can just release a bolt of electricity. But in that case it would still only stand a chance of hitting a target, as "path of least resistance" doesn't always mean "to the tallest living thing." (this is kinda the reason I've not really revisited the shock mortar) And of course the vehicle would have to be directly over targets, which isn't a great place to be at the incredibly limited verticle ranges CC gives us.

Really, the electrolaser method is probably the best way to pump a bunch of electricity into something at a range in a futuristic setting, and I'm probably not deviating from that. Sorry Rule of Cool.

EDIT: This all got me thinking about neat ways to attack from above indirectly. Arcing ballistic explosive deals are obvoius, but what about lasers? One approach might be to fire a ballistic projectile loaded with a one-shot laser, which scans below or even kind of in front of it to find a target, then shoots a laser (or possibly electrolaser) at it. This is kind of like the old shock mortar, though laser-based. I also thought of maybe some kind of projectile or flying device that, rather than having its own laser, instead acts as a mirror that redirects lasers fired at it towards visible targets. Could be a new way to equip the Yosei in the future, since I'd like to let the player mount different things on it, such as that mirror array, or a small rocket launcher.

Flak cannon fires semi-conductive thread all over the place, then sparks and ignites the wires.
Nichrome coated with magnesium for example.
Maybe that's spending too much time rationalizing weapons.

This. I usually just do what makes killing look sci-fi and cool at the same time with no regard to what real-world physics would be, especially because it takes place in a game, on another planet, in the far future. I couldn't say what physics would even be.

Ah, I remember these. DarKlones were extremely fun to play with. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the DarKlone drop ship was in the archive. I lost the file when I reformatted and forgot to back up my CC folder. Does anyone have it? It was a drop ship that had two pivoting fans attached to its sides and dual 'bent' doors that opened outwards from below.

The DarkStorm pack has the Yatagarsu, which fits that description exactly. If that helps any.

I'm not referring to the current drop ship. I believe there was one before this one. The main part of the ship didn't look like a ball, but like the side of an actual ship, with windows and such.

The Yatagarasu has gone through at least 3 iterations that I know of.

This one:

And the current one:

There could be more since the original DarKlones were a little before my time, but those are the Yatagarasu's from B20-ish onward.

I think the top Yata was the first one (before it, the only delivery option was the droppod, which looked more like an elongated pill).

In that case, the version of DarkStorm that precedes the current one has an older version of the Yata that may be what you're looking for. As an added bonus, I converted my copy to function simultaneously with the current version of DarkStorm, so you don't need to worry about multiple DarkStorm.rte versions.

Let me know if you want it.

That would be awesome, if you could. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: And yeah, I was talking about the one in the middle.
