If it were, the US would already be out of troops.

If this were a fullblown nation-state on nation-state war, we'd have more troop. Since it isn't (and the attrition rate is lower) we don't have the massive military of past conflicts.

BTW, cannon fodder was a civil war term, it literally meant using people to get shot at by cannons to the point where they would run out of ammunition. When they ran out of ammo, that's when the real charge would begin. An effective strategy, but pretty shitty for the people getting shot at by the cannons.

And no, they don't use those kinds of tactics any more. Haven't since WW1. Well, the Russians kinda did in WW2, but they're... special.

They WERE using tanks after all

WW1 and WW2 where definantly the worst cause there was mechanized death, machine gun, stuff like that, and so people would just send men out agianst trenches, the french at one point where loseing like 5000 men a day, i think more, cause of that.
