The title says it all.

In a fight between an Eastern Lowland Gorilla and a Kodiak Bear, who would come out on top?

A few specifics for size and ground rules:

The average E. Lowland Gorilla, in the wild, weighs about 500+ pounds. For our little discussion here, we'll call him 600 pounds, a weight which has been recorded in captivity. (The largest ever recorded was over 800.)

A male Kodiak can weigh anywhere between 800-1400 pounds, though the larger weights are generally very rare and only when conditions are ideal. We'll call him a 900 pound male bear.

The arena will be a regular forest. Both animals are unaware of each other at the start of the fight, but once they are, they will, for sake of discussion, be determined to murder the other, not fearing death or retreating.

Place your bets people.

I'm going with the gorilla.

The winner would be...the gorilla.

According to wikipedia, eastern lowland gorillas tend to be peaceful and live in groups, while kodiak bears are generally solitary, have mixed personalities and have their intelligence level ranging from canine to primate.

I vote for the bear if it's a one-on-one, since it's larger and has claws even if the gorilla may be slightly more intelligent. If it was in nature, I would vote for gorilla, 'cause the gorilla would call in its herd and beat the crap out of the bear.

Bears are able to easily lift half large ton boulders, and can run 30 miles per hour.
A lot of bears can climb trees, but the ones that can't will cut down said trees.

Bears usually attack the appendages ( disarming the target ) before hauling the dieing creature off for occasional snacking.
So called bear mace usually isn't strong enough to deter adult bears.

They can stand on two legs and make fast and devastating swipes, say fast, and hard enough to rip your head right off.

Gorillas. I can imagine that gorilla could tear out the bear's throat with a light pinch. Maybe if it was Gorilla v. Polar Bear, then the results would be different.
