Possible reason for random lagging on different PC's?
Hey, just wanted to post this here, maybe the devs will read it and try to come up with a reason for why this game works this way. (Hint: It might be because it was developed on a 64bit system.) Anyway, both me and 2 of my friends have computers that run on a 32bit system. (XP home edition), and we all have severe lag problems when running CC, especially when there are any explosions. It's definately not an issue regarding our computer specs, We all have at least 3.0 ghz dual cores with the latest graphic cards and drivers, and a minimum of 4gb of RAM. However, 2 other friends of mine have computers that are relatively shitty, dual core 2.5ghz's, Nvidia 8800, 2gigs of RAM. The main difference, however, is that they both have Windows Vista as their operating system. When they play CC on those computers, neither of them have any lag at all, unless they spawn something like the 0 division bomb. The lag problems various users experience when playing CC could be the result of a poor port for XP32, although this has yet to be officially tested. It could be because 32bit systems just run slower than 64bit, I don't know, I'm not a computer wiz like the guys at Datarealms. If people help post their operating systems and specs, especially the brand of video card and especially especially the operating system, we could pin down a definate reason for this mysterious lag."Video card doesn't come into play at all, it's more important to know the CPU. Also, have people post resolution as well, otherwise you'll be comparing apples to pineapples."

On the laptop i'm using now, dunno the specs, but it runs pretty equally on both vista, xp and w7.

That's the thing, it could be completely random or it could be due to some specific item. In experience it seems to run best on mid-range PC's.

4 Core, 2.4 GHz 4 Gigs of RAM Vista Ultimate, 32-bit 1280x1024 Runs pretty well, I can't notice any real random lag. It slows down slightly during explosions, but not terribly. If there is any lag on mine, it's the kind that should be there. Such as ZD bombs.

There seems to be a discrepancy between AMD and Intel CPUs as well. Intel, from the several reports of problems with AMD processors, hazily seems to do better.

Cortex Command is, as far as I know, a 32-bit program.

I put CC on my older computer, a premade HP computer, with a single core 1.8 Ghz AMD processor, and it runs much faster than on my better computer, which is a dual core 2.0 Ghz AMD processor.
No idea why.

Same here. My hella old desktop runs it 10x better than my laptop. Laptop is a little faster but it hella crashes all day. Maybe it's Vista.

AMD athlon 3.0GHZ dual core, 4MB ddr2 ram, vista 64bit home premium. Runs well.
I have a friend with xp 32bit home and it gets all but frozen about 2 minutes into the game no matter what. He has same processor as me but his videocard is not so good. Could be his OS and background stuff but I'm not sure. I'll look into it more later.

The video card's not it. CC doesn't use it.

In all fairness, pineapples at least has the word apples in it. Anyways; Desktop PC 3.02ghz AMD dual core, 64 bit. Windows XP Pro, 64 bit. 8gb RAM (Cheapy $20 dollar a stick) ATI Radeon HD 4800. 2gb. I run CC at whatever the default out of the box resolution is. Windowed. I get bit of lag when drop ships and such explode. Other than that the game runs as well as I would expect it to.

AMD Phenom II x2 3.1 gHz dual-core 4GB RAM 240GB SATA HDD
Isn't that pretty much what CC uses, i guess...
Lags when there's over 1000 particles or 100 moids.

The new intel CPUs apparently eat CC from what I've heard.
