Where do you go to just play with new mods, or just screw around in CC? If you can, give a link to the scene/mission.
My personal preference was originally Astro, then the EDV mission Overrun, then Lambda's version of Astro, and now I'm on to Swarm.

Straight to grasslands, since I'm lazy. The combination of some flat areas and a other terrain feature make me really play the mod out in it's fullest.

For making sure something works without crashing, Tutorial Mission (as a mission, not skirmish).
For testing homing weapons, Maginot Mission (as a mission, not skirmish).
For gif making, Grasslands or Horizland.

No items, fox only, fina Death, grasslands.

I actually have trouble selecting other skirmish settings because I'm so used to clicking those options as fast as possible.

Grasslands, Death Mode if I'm doing a full-on test of a mod or need AI opponents. For basic testing, my copy of CC automatically loads Ketanot Hills when it starts, so an innocent Dafred usually bears the brunt of my testing.
Also, for videos of mods, I often use this. I made it as a Campaign map with no enemy spawns and a few good spots for weapon testing, as well as a brain slot.

Automatically loads it?
A special dev copy, or some clever settings changes?

the latter. playintro = no, then default activity/scene to your fav. loads the game, skips to the carnage!

I thought it automatically went to actor test or whatever no matter what you set the default to?

Dummy assault is the best testing ground in vanilla. Astro is the best custom one. My one gripe with dummy assault is its faulty win script that ends up looping endlessly after you kill the enemy brain; you cant observe the battlefield after the winning and the winning music keeps activating every next frame.

I test my weapons in the tutorial mission, then if I like em I mess around in other missions, usually ones I've downloaded from the scene section of the site.

It used to come with CC. No idea who took it out of vanilla.
