The main problem I have with using animated frames to determine movement of arms/legs is because it makes adding animated attachables painful/impossible/ugly on them. Most leg attachables look fine, but every arm attachable rotates with the head, which only looks good with maybe a shoulderpad but nothing else.

And don't get me started on draw order.
I hate how we can't directly change the draw order of actors. If I want a BG hand that actually stays in the BG I should be able to do it. If I want a sprite for hair to appear behind the head/torso I should be able to do so without hacky lua tricks. Granted most of my problems are when I'm working with a larger and thus more detailed actor, but regardless I feel the current system is very limiting.

If Data did implement it there should be an option to choose which limb type to use, because they each have their own strengths and weaknesses.
To put it simply, whole limbs mean more artistic opportunity, but segmented limbs mean simpler coding and attachable use.

I think it's been mentioned before, but I'd like to see grenades be implemented such that their ammo capacity was matched with the guns.
So to say, equipping one grenade would let you throw an unlimited amount of them.
Otherwise there's not a lot of incentive to bring them along with your troops.

So have "grenade belt" as a gun with X grenades on it (ideally it would be a new weapon class that had the same variable throw), otherwise just give them 4-5 grenades for clearing out bunkers when you need them. the variable lob is a blessing when you get it.

A: More effective.

For some reason grenades still explode in your hands even if "activatesWhenReleased = 1". Should be fixed.

Pardon my lateness to the topic and quasi-necro, but I agree wholeheartedly on the front of limb animations. I also agree with CrazyMLC's suggestion of different types of limb animations; if possible, have the segmented limbs for simpler spriting, and the current animation system for artistic expression.
Now, this would be the ideal, but I don't know how difficult it would be to implement a multiple-type animation system, and wasn't going to suggest it myself until Crazy did. Just out of curiosity, how likely/viable would such a system be for upcoming builds? Any ideas?

Also, on a whim, I created a proof-of-concept piston-limbed dummy. Very poorly sprited, and the eye I tried to give him also looks like crap. Nevertheless, it raises the question of whether the current animation system is worth keeping for its potential, considering that the vast majority of mods use bipedal sprites with knees and ankles in a closely humanoid arrangement.

Will it be possible to access some basic transparency values for MO's?
If not with ini modding, at least with lua?
There must be some basic transparency support in the engine, just look at the bunker placer mode, note that the bunker bits you place are semitransparent.

It is a thread for CONTENT TWEAKS.

That is why the title of the thread is CONTENT TWEAKS.

As in, SMALL CHANGES (tweaks!) that are made to the base game data (content!)

Pardon me, but I thought the last couple suggestions were just suggestions for content tweaks. Lafe's was a suggestion for making a feature that appears to be included already available to the common modder, and the previous suggestion would, I would think, be relatively simple to implement. At the very least, we were merely making it clear that the current system of animations is sufficient.
However, correct me where and if I am wrong.

In any case does it really matter what people are talking about anymore? I think we've pretty much got every balance issue. Less reload time, Nailer Pistol is OP, Ronin are underpowered...

I think one of the big problems for me is how slow the game is updated, even the small updates are few and far between.

So my suggestion for new content is ' give us an update every month' :grin:
