Post Palette problems
Hey.

I'm just getting back into CC and to start off I thought I would make something simple I had made before, binoculars. The problem is though that the sprite doesn't show up right in the game :/ I opened the palette and then pasted the sprite into there and saved that as the sprite and it STILL didn't work (which I remember was how this kind of problem was fixed when I used to come here often).

So does anybody have any suggestions on how to fix it? And if you do fix it then please tell me how and what I did wrong.

Thanks guys

That kind of worked. On the buying menu it didn't appear correctly and when the character was holding it and facing right it was fine, when facing left it didn't display correctly then either.
What did you do to it?

Anybody else know what to do?

Just copy a sprite allready in palette (like from a base actor) then rename it, then paste your sprite in and save.

@Joost: I don't know how that would have happened, I only used colours from the palette :/ or I thought I did.

@Lizard: I tried that and now it's back to how it was originally of always displaying incorrectly

Got that problem too, very annoying :x

Also if you have a one handed weapon and a riot shield, part of the shield disappears.

You mean the program I use to make/do all this stuff with the sprite with?

Weird, I'm using MS paint and it's never happened before. I am however using Windows 7 now and MS Paint seems to have changed a lot visually, has it also changed to cause this palette problem? :???:

Definitly don't use MS Paint. I use GIMP, it is much better at CC spriting. Although I'm sure there are others.

I would use things like that but I find it much easier to zoom in and draw sprites pixel by pixel in paint.
Do you think if I was to use another program, like Photoshop, that it would fix the sprite?

That is not enough. Augh, here, have the image I attached, and look more carefully at this.
Let this be yet another lesson to everybody.

ON A COMPUTER, COLORS ARE MORE THAN WHAT YOU SEE. There are typically two components to a "color" on a computer. The palette and the color code. The palette, which you are missing, is a table of color indicies in an array with their corresponding display values (RGB usually, occasionally A) for the entire image file. While you used the correct display values, you were using an image that was not indexed, IE, used a full 24 bit color palette (256^3). Thus, Cortex can't figure out what the hell your image is trying to encode and does the best it can.

If I had a signature I would have that first line in it.

On an entirely unrelated note, I'm either spelling indicies wrong or Firefox's dictionary does not include it.

EDIT: Win7 paint does not act like XP paint at all. It does not keep palettes. Photoshop can keep palettes, I think, and if so instructions will be at that link. I use Gimp, but it seems a lot of people denigrate it for reasons I don't understand. There are more options listed at the link.

Thank you so much, you've fixed it.

Yeah I used to use the GIMP but then a friend showed me Photoshop and I got into that more. But I don't see anything wrong with the GIMP, it's a great program, but if you can get Photoshop free or if you're willing to pay for it then I would take Photoshop.
