Post Re: Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (2009-12-31: Fuel Air Bomb)
just droppin in

but uh yeah you did the fuel air bomb thing wrong from what i can see in the picture

i suggest lowering the number of bomb particles a little bit and how far the particles go if you want a smaller bomb, rather than just cutting the particle numbers dramatically like you did. the effect will be more like a fireball and less like a cluster bomb. also consider lowering the speed and sharpness of the explosion particles, and getting rid of the massive shockwave if you haven't already

i know you were trying to weaken it but by doing so you kinda killed what was cool about it

First off; fudge awesome. This has kept me occupied the entire day, which is a bit pathetic, but I'd like to see it expand a bit even though there's a lot of content already. I have a suggestion that might be a bit tough to implement- a docking station. Nothing fancy, just something that you could land UAVs inside where they would be repaired and reload their bombs/missiles. Perhaps something like a very thin tower with 3 or 4 tunnel sections which cause the UAVs to stop in mid-air and repair/reload when you fly them through each tunnel. Of course even with a full-ammo/full-life UAV, you could just put it there and keep it in an idle state instead of flying it nonstop.

Yeah, I was the one wondering about that but it seems my idea didn't work as I thought, just my fault for not realising the downside of multiple versions.
Would there still be any way to make a 0-gravity item that has a null sprite that stays at the top of the level, until the player presses left/right uppon which the object spawns the relative UAV?

Are you pressing and holding the up-key? You should see a faint smoke trail behind the UAV and the engine output is ~70% stronger.

From one side of the map to the first door, I barely clear that when holding the up button.
Oh and the Bunker Buster armed one, it just falls off the screen.

I hate those doors, you currently have me throwing over forty units of C4 down there that take 7 men to do.

This version of the UAV should actually be more powerful so something is definitely wrong. Do you get any Lua errors in the console? Did you install this version on top of the old version?

Mission accomplished then!

This is a good suggestion. I will look in to it.

IMO this version of the FAB works the same as your awesome original, but on a much smaller scale (mostly to reduce lag). Killing "what was cool" about your bomb was not intentional, but your quote gives me the impression that you never actually tried it.

Each bomb release 50 fuel particles.
After ~400ms they detonate releasing 1-2 of shockwave pixels for a total of 80 pieces. Plus air blast pixels etc.

@Quoth1: I've installed the one with the fuel air bomb armed UAV.

@Quoth2: I found it's or rather one, the Yuurei Bushi.

@Quoth3: Do it.

Oh and I have something to say, this version is modified, the throttle values are increased, it is slightly better.

With the direction deploying method, would it be easy to make it be able to go right left or even down? Just then it could automaticaly fly straight down if no input is given in say 3 seconds.

That would get annoying pretty fast.
Also, make this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MQ-8_Fire_Scout
BEcasue the nwe will have an UAV that we can use for fire support and not just one bombing run.

I just did some tests with Samohan25's spawn idea, and I really like the results. When the unit that is used to choose UAV has arrived, the player just selects it and use the movement keys to pick a direction. Up/down or the scroll wheel cycles through the UAVs and the fire key launch the selected version.

Edit: The only downside I can think of is that all UAVs cost the same this way.

just make it take from the gold cost as much as the one you placed costs.

How would keyboard users chose a UAV? Unless you could use aim up to cycle and left, right or down to deploy. I was thinking about a UAV deployer for each UAV, but your solution would be easyer, if harder to use in stresful situations where a UAV needs to be deployed ASAP, not that the buy menu is very easy to manage with several mods.

Would a UAV dock/hangar be included at any point? you could make a bunker module with a few pinned actors that can spawn UAVs and dock them, the perfect defence, especialy if it came in several sizes for 1 UAV to maby 5 or 6.

You select it, then you cycle through uavs with aim up and down (which happens to be s and w), then you choose direction with a or d.

This would be great if you could buy UAVs to store at a moments notice. To return them you'd simply fly them back up like a rocket.

There won't be any landing pads for the UAVs, but thanks to all the help with suggestions and play-testing Samohan25 has provided it is no longer useful IMO.
