Post Re: DarkStorm Military Technologies -- Updated 11/29/09
I was thinking for a secondary on the Oni Flamethrower is that it could possibly fire incendiary grenades, I mean the DarkStorm doesn't have any deadly grenades of its own, so why not create one and let the Flamethrower have a lobber, or possibly it could be a secondary fire for the normal Grenade Launcher. Either way we need more deadly grenades, and secondary fire features used by the DarkStorm. Also an Idea I had I don't believe you'd probably be interested in is a built in grappling hook for the Yuurei, that shocks anyone it hits. This could add to mobility(Although I never had issues with mobility with them) and attack tactics, Also this would give the Yuurei a chance to shoot while swinging around like Tarzan, and shocking people.

Also, might you be able to update it so we get the fixes for the guys? I mean I know its fixed, but people might keep bugging you until they get their hands on such.

Also when i played Astro MP3 version i noticed that light units in DarkStorm have the lack of sabotage ability aka they can't pass through huge doors, i would really like Dark Strom to have some kind of C4 Det. Pack.

Jamming on the knife button works wonders for lighter units.

Blah. I think this new version is actually worse than the last.

Cons:
The point defense units may have been a bit buggy when they died, but to just trash the whole concept? Luckily for me I didn't throw away the last version... actually using that instead of this one.
The turrets really lost a lot with this one. They're harder to arm, because you need to actually bring the weapons to them, and the weapons are overall less useful. Instead of a machinegun, railgun, and missile launcher, you just get a gatling gun and a... laser... gatling gun.
You couldn't deploy the turrets in skirmish mode.
The Shinobi Tengu lost it's blade and active camo, although the camo was pushing it a bit last version....
This one may just be me, but I couldn't figure out how to use the ceiling clinging/climbing on the new camo unit. Also, I noticed a .5-1.5 second jump delay on it.
No more shotgun, squad rifle, marksmen rifle, or coil gun. Those were some of my favorite weapons.
Old sniper rifle was better against heavy armor, I think just because instead of piercing through it just delivered such great force.
New laser weapons somewhat defeat the somewhat stealthy attitude of the previous versions, where all the ammo was caseless. Instead, with this version I could easily make a small mountain with the laser assault rifle or revolving laser.
The Shogun (Now, Bushi) Tengu punch was gone, which was a disappointment to me.
No more revolver, stun gun, or micro-tool.
Airburst grenade launcher changed to airburst EMP launcher, which 6/7 times went off too soon and didn't effect my target .

Pros:
Lasers were cool. Not the overall gun, just the lasers themselves.
Camo was done better... more... inclusive.
The new dropship was totally awesome.
Silenced guns... I'd missed those.
Sniper rifle was a lot cooler looking.
All weapons in general looked cooler.
Construction was cooler, except that the different bands appeared above AND below the top part, in alternating order, which was really weird.
Electrolaser was cooler

Really though, I would keep everything from the last version and just add the long range laser, electrolaser, and silenced guns. And change the active camo on the Shinobi to be more like the new one.

Melee key for wall-clinging. And the Oni still has the punch. You can deploy turrets in bunker building. They're under Bunker Systems. Tengu still has the blade.

Now that he mentions it, the GMG needs a boost in launching power. I rather liked the feeling of the old one, while the new weapon just feels like a normal grenade launcher with larger ammo capacity.

Point defence hasn't been scrapped apparently - he said he's trying to make it better.
The weapons are overall less useful? Sure, if you're directly controlling them. If you let the drone do its job it can see a very decent distance whilst hitting with almost perfect accuracy if you're using the gatling and absolute perfect accuracy with the laser.
The Shinobi still has the blade.
Correct usage of the Yuurei requires the instructions to be read.
Some of the removed weapons are undergoing redesign.
The new sniper rifle would apply much greater force than the old one to any target, regardless of whether or not it flies through.
The Oni is the new Shogun, not the Shinobi. Again, read the instructions.

Yuri thing has cloaking powers, a knife, and the overcharged knife stab special, can jump off walls and wall grab.
The Middle unit has a knife, can grab onto walls.
The big chick, or rather semi-feminized genderless clone, has the punch attack, and a grapple/throw attack.

You can deploy turrets in skirmish mode, and the point defense... I forgot what that was.
Dark noticed the air burst problem ( but it works perfectly for me ) , and for the lasers, LIKE THEY'D PUT A ♥♥♥♥ NUCLEAR REACTOR IN ONE OF THOSE, so they went with one use overcharging batteries.

I totally agree with you on the new stealth unit blaze: the entire jump system is screwed: it either delays, or doesn't respond, or throws you in a weird direction.
Honestly Darlos, can't you just have a traditional jump yet?

Oh yeah, the wall jump makes you jump at the direction you are facing, that was my turn off.

I found it made you jump suddenly sideways the way you are facing (left or right) rather than exactly where you are looking (like normal jetpacks do)

On ground the jump is a bit hard to get used to, true.
But it's been mentioned. Several times.

I love Yuurei unit, true, he is very hard to control without jetpack but that's what makes him so awesome, he is truly hardcore.

The thing I think I want most of all in CC is a properly hard to fight AI.
Do I have to go and make my own activities set for the Darkstorm?(oh noes work!)
Edit:
Did something anyway. Add it to the bottom of the Darkstorm Index.ini.
Please fix any balance issues you have and put them up here, or PM me.

Sadly, even the mighty Darkstorm is no match for a dummy with a shotgun, when in the hands of the fail AI. Oh well.

I'm not sure how to make the Kotei guys useful in a skirmish, they would need a follow command (and ability to move!).
The Shishi aren't offensive, and hard to set up.
As totally awesome as it would be to have good invisible attackers, there are no Yuurei here. Blame the vanilla AI or whatnot, but it would just be too hard to do without a lua script controlling the AI's every move, to be stealthy.

Also, I did not want to use any Raiju pods, they confuse the AI on landing and generally devour terrain. But I put one in anyway, with a guy who ought to be useful as an attacker.
Too bad the Kimon was removed, it was just about the best ship ever, the new Yatagarasu is really easy to defeat with vanilla guns.
That's not a bad thing, as the vanilla stuff kills other vanilla stuff fine too. But I expect big badass actors and ships to be pretty durable.

Edit:
Oh right, none of these guys is carrying the Darkstorm digger, as it's pretty useless. For any fun, make flat bases with accessible brains. It's generally more fun when there is actual challenge. Skirmish battles can still last hours though.

!!!UPDATE!!!

I... don't even want to begin to try to list all of the changes. Brain so fried... I guess I'll talk about them as others invariably notice them and bring them up.

I don't even know what has changed yet, I just switched to the front page and saw colored Tengus.

God Yes.
