The Mind Controller
http://www.emotiv.com/Well, this decade was a complete and utter dissapointment. 2 incompetent Presidents, a spike in gas prices, a newer, deadlier form of Flu with stretched resources concerning a vaccine, and most importantly, NO FLYING CARS. I mean, how hard is it to strap a superconductor to a hunk of metal and plastic?!? Not hard at all! But scientists are lazy. And greedy. Which is why instead of flying cars, all we got were Levitra and Enzyte. Because the world really needed more boner pills. If there are any advanced alien life forms watching us right now, they're either laughing or face-palming (or...y'know, whatever they have for a face. Or palms) But at least we have this. At. Least. We. Have. This. And the good news? If it isn't already compatible with Cortex Command, it can be patched to be so! My one concern is that this thing will make games like Team Fortress 2 much too easy. instead of using carefully honed reflexes to get those headshots, I just look at my screen and think "That guy has one head too many." and BAM. You win. That, and animating with any sort of animation program may become less... "Talent intensive". Why spend years of drawing when you can just think a masterpiece into Paint? Yeah, I've got a lot to say on the subject, but what do you guys think? Before you people throw up your sandals in disgust over how advertising this post seems. I doubt this person is earning anything for telling us about this. I believe he just thinks it's interesting and semi relevant to CC - p3lb0x

Okay, though this could be an awesome neurological controller, that could allow you to do like awesome things, and all that, this ♥♥♥♥ is like $300, and seems pretty limited in supplies.
And serious, can't this be moved to game discussion, with a ghost in mod making?
Okay, I need to see a quick way on how to set this up. And 300 free freakings dollars.

I played with this at the Game Developer's Conference.
It's what you expect from a first-to-market product: It sucks, really really badly.
Essentially what it does is it measures tension via electrical resistance. If you keep your head/scalp completely relaxed the thing doesn't work. You can squint your right eye and think "LEFT LEFT LEFT LEFT LEFT" and you'll go right. It would work just as well hooked up to your foot.
They pull the "mind control" sales copy because most people will kinda lean right or twitch their right ear or something when thinking about moving right. If you don't, you have to train your body to do it before these devices work.
Finally, the game has horrible resolution. It is really good at measuring overall "intensity" (so if you are angry at someone or really relaxed, is fairly good at that), but differentiating between different tensions in different locations suck.
There are 3 or 4 companies making devices like these, and they all suck the same way.

Here's a great video demonstrating the technology. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxMux4uEkLIWhen he's lifting the stone it doesn't even work, and announcer guy says "heh the stones are heavy". Right. More like the equipment sensitivity sucks. Look how long it takes him to lift the "secret object" up at the end of the video. Dude is straining pretty damn hard and can't even get it to budge. Notice how every action is unique and staged. If he tensed up his body and did the lifting motion on the "rotation" stone he would have gotten the same effect. The "push" stone doesn't make it far enough and locks into place when he finally pulls his hand BACKWARDS. They try to trick you by doing the "double action" stone where they do lift AND push at the same time. but it's obvious it's very state-based; he couldn't "push" the stone until it's locked in the upright position. Though a tech demo, and a crappy "game", dress it up a million times with flashy graphics and a nice controller, and you'll see what all the current-gen actual games for the system are. In this clip the president of emotiv actually states, near the start, that the controller measures electrical activity from your skin - and that things like facial expressions are the primary control mechanism. Dude sitting there is also one of the engineers of the project and is probably the "best" emotiv player and it takes him several seconds to start lifting a stone.

If you don't believe Weasel, look at one of these things' price tag, and then go to your local major hospital and ask how much their EEG costs. And that thing doesn't really read minds, and yet it's the closest thing we currently have.

Some later videos show directional control in the Epoc controller. I just wouldn't buy any of them for ten years.

Just wear blast goggles, shave your head, and start mixing glowing liquids in a laboratory until something explodes and leaves comical scorch marks on your face or you invent a robot or something! Sheesh, you want something done, you gotta do it yourself!
