   |   Re: Darwins edge: Evolution meets aiI'm dl'ing it, I'll rate it. I work with gm a little myself, I've had this tds I've been working on for a while, it uses someone elses ai engine, but I enjoy it. I figured out lots of cool little stuff with it, such as bouncing bullets and shockwave-type guns and such, if you want a copy.

Also, to avoid being spam, I tried it, and I was a bit confused on what exactly I was supposed to do. Do I just watch, or do I interact with them somehow?

   |   Re: Darwins edge: Evolution meets aiFEEDBACK: YOU ARE COLOSSALLY BAD AT SPELLING
I CAN UNDERSTAND PHONETIC ERRORS AS IN "SOUNDING-IT-OUT" BUT JESUS CHRIST MAN

APRUCIATED? THAT WOULD BE PRONOUNCED AH-PROO-SHE-AY-TED

 GAME THOUGHTS: A LIVEBLOG
OH MY GOD YOUR SPLASH SCREEN DOESN'T EVEN HAVE TRANSPARENT CORNERS

THE MAIN MENU LOOKS LIKE THE INEPT PHOTOSHOPPING OF A LOCAL TELEVISION STUDIO

new game: oh god the menu is scrolling without me how do I tell what the first level is

 I picked Lowlands

what the ♥♥♥♥ is this what does that blue text say it's like five pixels tall and squished
there's a ---box of genes? and---round spikes? I guess the dumb little jumping things are your iterations
 not sure you get this
what the hell is going on
 some of them died
 then nothing happened
why does my mouse pointer have cash (or a lack thereof)

I CLICKED ON THE ILLEGIBLE BLUE BOX AND NOW I HAVE NEGATIVE MONEY

 NOTHING IS HAPPENING
 I CAN'T EXIT THIS
 WHAT IS THIS

OKAY YOU PRESS ESC TO EXIT TO THE LEVEL SELECT SCREEN (WHICH IS STILL SCROLLING. AND HAS THE SAME BACKGROUND AS ALL THE OTHER LEVELS, EXCEPT WITH MSPAINT SPRAYPAINT CLOUDS)

OKAY I WENT TO LEVEL TWO AND THERE WERE LIKE THREE OF THESE THINGS
THEY JUMPED INTO THE GENES BOX AND THEN DISAPPEARED
 I STILL HAVE -10 MONEY

 LEVEL THREE HAS FIRE
 SO MUCH

 FIRE
HORRIFFICALLY OPTIMIZED FIRE THAT IS LAGGING MY COMPUTER
 JESUS CHRIST
 PARTICLE SPAM

what the ♥♥♥♥ is going on okay I guess level three won't work because jesus the slowdown

"ice flows" (level four) contains "water" (flat blue-gray background overwrite)

I still have -10 cash but hilariously enough this mouse pointer text doesn't display while mousing over the water
 nice draw depth lafe

I am now sitting on the u-bend in level 4
I have been here for like four minutes

there were two square jumping things, one of them made it before the other and now NOTHING IS HAPPENING AND THE OTHER ONE TURNED INVISIBLE

LET'S TRY LOWLANDS AGAIN, FROM THE TOP
two of the things went through the gene box but like three disappeared into it
 there is no apparent difference

oh my god there are sounds I did not realize

 SOUNDS: -4/10
 REPETITIVE WIND NOISE
 FOREVER
SOUND OF INDETERMINATE OBJECT STRIKING INDETERMINATE SURFACE
 AD INFINITUM
BARELY AUDIBLE SOUND OF "PLAYFUL JUMPING" OR I DON'T REALLY KNOW
YOU KNOW WHAT THE GOO BALLS DO IN WORLD OF GOO
YEAH IT'S KINDA LIKE THAT (EXACTLY LIKE THAT)

IN FACT THESE THINGS ARE BASICALLY THE GOO BALLS EXCEPT UH SQUARE
AND THEY DON'T EVEN LOOK AT THE MOUSE POINTER

okay so apparently!!! you scroll through (some) levels with your mouse
now maybe I am unclear on the concept here but GETTING ♥♥♥♥ TO THE END DOESN'T GIVE ME ANY CASH AND THE DETERMINATION IS ENTIRELY RANDOM AND FREE FROM USER INPUT
even when ♥♥♥♥ goes into the "gene bank" (I'm guessing) nothing happens to my cash and oh god what is this game at all

 PROS:
spikes turn red when the---whatever the ♥♥♥♥ walk onto them

   |   Re: Darwins edge: Evolution meets aiLafe, for ♥♥♥♥'s sake, what the hell is this thing? You can't even close it, I had to manually end the process. Also, how the bloody hell does it work?

   |   Re: Darwins edge: Evolution meets aiwell that was crap, no explanation of anything, no actual physical evolution or difference at all, so it's hard to actually tell if there's any "evolution" happening. I don't know if you can do this in GM, but how's about at least having a different colour for each "gene" that you supposedly have (i.e jump height is red, speed is blue and jump frequency is green, 0 = minimum value 255 = maximum value, equal amount of each = grayscale). no instructions? wtf man WE didn't make the game YOU did, you can't expect us to be able to know how to play/use this. Your title is completely obnoxious, "simple evolution race" would be more appropriate, I was expecting something great until I read the creator...
Lafe I'm not trying/meaning to be nasty but everything you do has consistently low quality, be patient and spend more time and effort on the things that you create, let's face it you aren't an artist so here's a tip to improve your art assets: keep them simple, maybe go for a geometric style, or ascii if you honestly can't create any good assets, and try to keep the colours slightly desaturated except for extreme highlights.

   |   Re: Darwins edge: Evolution meets aiIf lafe actually tested his work, he would be either addicted to [at least] three kinds of drugs to "make the bad pictures go away", or he would have gouged out his eyes then tried to choke himself with them in horror.

   |   Re: Darwins edge: Evolution meets aithere are no in-game instructions but according to lafe: "yep, you place a "bet" on them, and make or lose money accordingly to their success. the main point of this is the ai actually learns to get better at surviving their environment. this could be applied to anything even a shooter with an adapting ai."

thus the game boils down to clicking the squares right before they make it to the "finish line" (gene bank) thus earning you "money" that has no use.
