Post Re: Gratuitous Space Battles
I tried messing about with weapon stats, and it crashed on me, three times consecutively.

EDIT: Disregard, I made an error. I figured everything out, with the exception of the "uisortpos" and "flareuvid" variables. I'm assuming the "uisortpos" is something with the interface? "pos" probably means position. Otherwise, I'm stumped.

Modding this is fun.

two games about ships fighting in space are obviously clones one way or another

two games about people jumping are also clearly clones

PS modern warfare two ripped off Hl2 it's a linear first person shooter

HL2 also totally ripped of HL1 as it's about a scientist in a space suit killing xenos

Can a sequel be considered a rip-off? Also, they all ripped off Wolf 3d.

Anyone else get the idea that this game would make the most amazing screen saver imaginable?

Was thinking exactly the same thing, Miles.

The difference is this one costs money.

This game is awesome! I love the ship modding(empire is my fav). Although you can't command the ships, its still entertaining watching them duke it out. The most satisfying thing is making Frigs that can take out Cruisers.

@Miles: They're really for two different audiences, especially how BSF has evolved. Practically no-one "plays" BSF anymore, they just design pretty and interesting ships, because there is no point or value limit on what you can bring in.
GSB looks like it will have a modder community and a player community, much like we do with some interaction between the two camps. The players debate the best strategies and loadouts, and the modders break the game's balance to make it funner or more interesting.

Noone plays it anymore and they just make pretty ♥♥♥♥, that sounds so familiar.

also, @ grif, No, if that was the case I'd point at starcraft, Notice I didn't, This is more than just "spaceships fighting space-ships"

This is, Customized, modular space ships with an assortment of parts and guns that you pile on any way you want, and then doing top-down RTS-ing where each piece can be blown up and aiming isn't by chance but by trajectory.

I'm not complaining that it's another game like it, What I'm complaining about is how that one gets such spontaneous praise because people go "oh look at this i found it on steam lololololol", whereas the indi game that came out years before it is largely ignored.

BSF has been at some of the same indi gaming things that CC has been at, and here you people go thinking I'm crazy to say that this is a ripoff of an older indi-game, the total irony being that we're on the forums for an indi-game that is quite likely to be ripped off by something that makes a larger profit.

-edit

Just noticed this is also an indi-game, but my point still applies, this one is more known.

Jesus that is purely inference and you know it. Prove to me that anyone has said that. And regardless of the rediculous nature of your proclamations, if BSF is ignored because it isnt on steam, maybe it should be.

I believe your missing the point. quite short and simply put, BSF came first, and has more detail in certain respects, yet is largely ignored, because of a newer, better promoted game. Much the way that I fear will happen to CC some day. also yes, I ♥♥♥♥ up, I didn't realize this was another indie game, and I spelled indie wrong, but for what my actual point was, you guys sure went out of the way to point out my mistakes, just to ignore my point.
