I just removed the "Joined Date" and the "Location" bits from the bar to the left here. I also wanted to get rid of "postcount" chunk but I think we probably need something in it's place before it goes away. As much as I dislike postcounts and people's obsession with them, it's probably best to keep it in some fashion.

edit: postcounts removed too. Forgot they were still visible in the user profile.

Now post count is the focus.
If you're going to take everything else off I'd put post count in the profile only.

If it weren't for the trooper, crabling, etc icons this would look very plain. Looks alright.

Postcount, combined with join date, generally points out how helpful a user is, or at least how much they have contributed. I suppose most of us know the who's who of DRLFF, but newbies coming in would be pretty lost unless they decided to lurk for a while. A collapsible "Stats" bar would be nice, for all that stuff. Yeah, pro-readability and whatever, but uh, by taking features out you dont make a forum better. Collapse stuff, heck, add something new, but don't just take stuff out cause it irks you. I know forums are about content, and not about how many posts X has made, but being able to look at a users statistics on the go is good too, especially when they are essentially indicative of the users contributory value. Points at the fact that nobody cares about individual users enough to warrant clicking the profile button.

We appear to be getting closer and closer to facepunch's forum. Which is, in my opinion, not good. No noob is going to take the time to click on a user's profile just to check the post count and see if he's reliable. There was never that much of an elitism mindset in this forum anyway.

There was, but it died. It was still alive when I joined, then it kinda fell off in a slow decline.

Ironically, I could have used the join date to tell when that was, but whatever. Anyway, if it's gone now, then why bother removing it, as I already said.

I kinda like the idea of collapsable stats, but as people have pointed out - users are too lazy and will simply never click buttons that will give them the info they want.

As for the usefulness of the data at all;

Location is right out. I don't think there's any reason to keep it in, unless we retitled the field "this is my funny joke:" or something, but then it just becomes a signature.

Join Date is pretty useless as well. A prolific, helpful, good user with a new account can get a few hundred awesome posts in just a few weeks. Newbs with no posts can lurk for years before posting their first lame message.

Post Count is about the only stat I kinda-wanted to keep, and exactly for the purposes outlined in the posts prior... As a measure of "newbness". However, some folks start taking it as bragging rights or as a badge of honor to have big numbers, when it really shouldn't be about that.

I'm thinking on ways to keep "newb" indicators in place for people with less than 50ish(?) posts. Maybe a custom rank or usergroup or something. Not positive yet, I'll see what we come up with.

These ones I don't really care so much about, but a signature is a necessity for a modding forum. Especially since this forum does pretty well with not using filterraped anime sigs, and using them for advertising and such
