But he wants more than a missing bolt in the reload image, he also wants the string to look different but not gone.

yes; if you notice, the loaded sprite has the string cocked and the arms are bent closer towards the cocking mechanism.

also, because these aren't getting used for anything, you guys are free to use the sprites if for some reason you actually want to.

Couldn't you add the string and bolt in the loaded position as the magazine, and when it's fired that disappears revealing the actual image of the gun, which is the fired, bolt free crossbow.

if you line it up right, it'll work.

You mean have frame 1 be a pulled back bolt-less crossbow and frame 2 be a un-pulled back crossbow, and have the bolt be a discardable magazine?
That's how to do it.

except i still dont think frame 2 shows for the entirety of the load sequence, but hey, if it does, awesome. I might test that later.

Also, you can have a crossbow pulled back without having a bolt in it. It'll work out. The reloading portion would just mean you haven't put the bolt in yet.

@geti: actually, the first frame is fully loaded and the second frame is entirely unloaded. the sprites were based on this crossbow:

I meant that a crossbow can be pulled back and not have a bolt in it; meaning it doesn't matter what frame is shown when loading. Just as long as the bolt isn't there while reloading, which it wont be.

Use the second, uncocked image by itself. 1 frame. Then, make your magazine the first image - the crossbow ready to fire.

Wait, problem - it would look like ♥♥♥♥ unless you had the thing automatically reload.
That's a hassle.

I say settle for one of your two frames and just use an image of a bolt as your magazine.

Alright, i will do this then, thank-you for the help guys. although imo there should really be an "animmode" or whatever for this.

There are a lot of things this game should have and doesn't.
