What the hell possessed you to put your video card in the oven? :-?
Not discussing the efficacy of your solution, just wondering, how the hell did that come up as a solution?
It's actually a pretty old solution. Like he said, the heat melts the solder points and allows them to resolidify.

Honestly, it's a last-ditch fix. You are more likely to warp the memory modules more than anything else.

yeah it should definitely be a last string solution, like my ATI was a year old and i found it in a computer lying on the street basically so yeah i did it because it was free and i have a crapily decent onboard GPU but hey don't do it if you have less dangerous solutions first :)

(fun fact: when making GPUs and MBs and stuff like that they will put them back in a par-say "oven" and "cook" them again to fix faulty soldering in the circutry so actualy i didn't come up with that i just scaled it down, and i definitely wasn't the first to do that smaller scale fix)

5-6 years is getting pretty ancient in computer terms, you should probably think about simply replacing a 7600 card anyway.
I just upgraded my machine, more than I planned, but it saves me doing it later.

Ok. Major update, -FROM- my computer that I have completely resolved!

It's funny, I've left Data Realms alone for months and I actually found out about the oven baking trick from another forum I peruse ([H]ard Forum). I just yesterday finally just said "♥♥♥♥ it" to the card since it was beyond help in my eyes and already out of warranty. I stripped every removable part on the card (heat sink fan, metal plate, screws, etc, and popped it for 10 minutes solid in my preheated 385 degree oven.

I waited about 45 minutes for it to air-cool and then re-attached the other parts and popped it back in my computer....

..Bang. No more artifacts. It looks very crisp, it's running smooth and if I didn't think I was just missing my monitor I'd say it looks better than it did previously.

As for my computer crashing and windows failing, I finally got some recognizable stop error BSOD's that pointed to faulty RAM. Some tests later I found a faulty 512 Kingston stick was the culprit. After it was removed I found I could install a clean windows on a new partition without issue.

Everything is back to normal. I'm amazed that I let this thing sit under my bed for 2 solid months. It's funny that now I finally come back to explain this only to see that the oven trick was suggested quite some time ago. Ha! Oh well. Everything is dandy.

I guess you could say I'm back.

I am stunned!
The Baking trick worked?
When I first read that post I thought it was a joke (eg 'delete system32, works everytime' sort of thing)

wow!
