I don't get it. You can't hold a gatling gun in hand - you need a tripod or something, right? What good would a stationary short range gun be?

Those are only used for anti-missile/aircraft defense. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot. ProjektTHOR wrote: I don't know what to say about this thread. Re: Real life gatling shotgun
Could you repeat the part where you explain why it wouldn't need a tripod? I don't profess to know much about firearms, but I'm pretty sure a Gatling anything has too much kick to be held in hand.

 Re: Real life gatling shotgun
... WAT. I just said that that's why it would be useless: it can't be used unmounted, and mounted it's utterly useless, since good old Gatling guns are more than good enough.

 Re: Real life gatling shotgun
Well how about a real life chainhurpdurp belt fed automatic shotgun? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iX7vwivR6cE(still pretty impractical, but at least real)

Too bad that thing jams so often. It was going pretty good for the first 1/2 belt.

 Re: Real life gatling shotgun
Cool, methinks. Even though revolver shotguns ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=By_-FyBFEGA) are where it's at. Even if they are the weapons with the worst aim ever. (And sorry for the lousy video. Was the best one I managed to scrounge on the internet.)

 Re: Real life gatling shotgun
this whole thread is full of fail, though revolver shotguns are very cool. and everyone yelling "SHORTRANGESHORTRANGE" has never been shooting with a shotgun before.

 Re: Real life gatling shotgun
I said not long enough range to shoot down aircraft, not short range as in like video game short range. But I haven't been shooting ever full stop, so I just realised I didn't have to justify myself. Actually it's on the internet too, so whatever. ProjektTHOR wrote: I don't know what to say about this thread. Re: Real life gatling shotgun
I really dont think many of us assumed an anti-air role for a shotgun besides foa O_o my comment wasnt really aimed at you, but thanks for the justification regardless.

 Re: Real life gatling shotgun
The reason there's no point mounting any variant of the GAU on a tank is that the Thunderbird is, for all its beauty, inherently an inaccurate platform, so one mounts a rapid-fire weapon on it. Modern MBTs are accurate platforms, so one mounts an accurate weapon upon them.
