Also, said originator cannot reveal the taker of the idea, now or during voting, publicly or privately. It is a very tangled situation, the absence of which would make my job easier.

So my chances of being able to take the headcrabs idea are around zero, right?
....
I was gonna put some kind of nerd rage picture here, but none seemed striking enough. Oh well.

I wasn't going to make it anyway, so no need to ask, I guess. I'll shut up next time, just saying that Mile's idea was more creative than he thought it was, or at least more creative than my idea(s).

It is a very tangled situation, the absence of which would make my job easier. how about from now on we have both anonymous and open modding contests, so this little problem is resolved. furthermore the 2 contests could be unrelated so if you win one, you could still win the other, because its a different chain. IE Open and Ladder like for tournament play. just a thought. I'd actually attempt to enter both, as long as my mod doesn't go all wonkey like this time.

Miles, you can't have a non-anonymous MC, because then people will vote based on the person who made the mod, instead of the mod itself. That's why this one was (and still is) anonymous in the first place.

I do believe that people would vote based on creator and bias, but I am human and I can be wrong. I'd rather find out. thats also why I say to do *both*

Re: Mod Contest 5 | Times changed
We've never had an explicitly open contest, but if I'm not mistaken the first one, when I didn't have any rules about discussion of possible creators, degenerated into a flame-fest.

Actually in the game conversion I did a boxing style commentary on the entrants - nobody noticed, but at the same time it will descend into favouritism if they did know.

Re: Mod Contest 5 | Times changed
Final word: Anonymous contests stay unless you can prove to me that as a forum we would not be biased this way or that. You would probably make a better use of your time thinking of another idea to turn in before next Friday.
However, to not be a total downer, I will say this. Next contest, group modding submissions will be accepted and welcomed. This really just means more than one coder. It has become clear to me that it is unreasonable of me to force a mod to be developed by one single coder when I allow them to draw upon any artistic and Lua resources they choose. If I forget again (because I was supposed to do this this contest), remind me and go ahead.
