Re: Perfect base
You have to have one of these. It stops you having to rely on the AI's rubbish digging skills, therefore giving you more time to concentrate on blowing the opposition to little bits.

Re: Perfect base
for me the perfect base design seems to be a toilet. I'm not kidding, the AI can not navigate a U Bend.
you make a giant hole, that funnels them into a hallway that goes UP back to ground level, and over to your brain. maybe a skeleton with a pistol for the laughable chance they get back to ground level. The lack of obstructions makes the AI always go through the tunnels rather than dig... Just be sure to keep it clean.
Now on a more serious note I do have some base designs I liked that seemed flawless. I might make bunker modules of pre-fab bases just because.

Re: Perfect base
A picture says more than a thousand words..... So, here is the picture: Both character and weapon is taken from a mod i am currently creating, and the enemies, is Kloveska..... Seriously..... One brain-unit and only one weapon, nothing else..... makes it a real fun thing trying to survive, especially when they can pretty much do one-shot kill on you.....

That was a pretty big necro, Matty, But I'll allow it just this once, since you did contribute something to the thread. Anyway: The Dauss Effect - In Action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7saMqMKvKmE

Re: Perfect base
Put a brainbot in a bunker below the ground. Put a DSTech drone hive in the middle of the screen. There, you're invincible.

I have a few below ground bases that only use vanilla content, and it makes me invincible. and no not using the impossible UBend method either. Its expensive but it works. I'm actually gonna make it now in the scene editor, and upload it, BRB. --EDIT The screencap was too wide, SO I Rar'd it with the scene.ini

Re: Perfect base
easiest way to "trick" AI is to exploit their predilection for doors
they will always try to go through a door before digging

Re: Perfect base
First. With that many guards, your approaching the MOID limit, which means exploding actors. Second. Holy crap, that is what I call a brain vault.

My base is the white house guarded by Obama wielding a Lightsaber.

Lol. I wouldn't feel very safe, even if that were a real lightsaber.
