Yea I am new to the fourms, but i have been wondorin, will there end up being vehicles? In the opening scene, it shows the Coalition soldiers with some mechs, but are all of the moving thing in the final version going to be actors?

Re: Vehicles?
It's not likely. Those mechs will likely show up in the game, but if you look closely, it's on legs, too. The problem is that vehicles are just much too buggy in this engine, and the levels are not big enough for them to be very useful most of the time.

Re: Vehicles?
I'd love to see something like the Dummy Armored Car mod incorporated into the game as first party content, that thing drives like no one ever thought things could in CC.
The making of actual, 'neutral' (By which I mean, capturable vehicles with no minds of their own.), is kind of buggy though, TLB is right.

Re: Vehicles?
But in the case of official content, bugginess can be fixed.
I too would really like to see official manual vehicles in CC. They don't need to be a specific type of vehicle that doesn't fit with CC. If a treaded tank doesn't work, why not some wacky rolling tank, or a legged tank? They could make excellent mission/gamemode objectives/features.

Re: Vehicles?
Yeah, Duass there is hope for 'real' vehicles, but the problem is that the persom with the mod was banned, yes it is numgun, and his BW2:TheRevengenation VTOL. And yes I am refering to the youtube video he linked in the Epic Moments.

Re: Vehicles?
Didn't he remove all the download links - his banning doesn't relate to the fact that you can't get the mod, he's just being a... uh... <3 about it.

Seraph, he hasn't even released BW2:The ReverseAttakening yet, and I doubt he'd really be that positive about releasing it after his ban.

Re: Vehicles?
back on topic: Pilotable vehicles are not going to be a big priority I'd imagine, as it doesn't fit in to Cortex Command's universe very well. If you can remote control a body, why not remote control a tank? It seems silly to pilot a body piloting a machine, don't you agree?
But big tanks and stuff should and probably will be added to the game (ie stuff like the dummy armoured vehicles that guy made).
Although, I WOULD like to see a 'control the enormous deadly mech' mission. That'd be neat.

The only problem is, like TLB said, that method of vehicle is very hacky and unreliable. It would have to be an intended feature, implemented by Data, for it to ever enjoy the functionality we'd need to have good vehicle.

Erm, no, it is the used the code that made the actor be placed in the vehicle's inventory, and then allowed the now piloted vehicle be controlled by the pilot's team, the pilot could jettison whenever you press the right button, and you obviously haven't seen the video. But you are right, though we have vehicles ( with the pilot exposed or not ) the only true way to have vehicles is for it to be coded by the devs.

Re: Vehicles?
I am not speaking of vehicles in a mods sence, CC should be more ambitious, I cant imagine the game being the one we have now but with a story. It needs to be as awesome as posible, and I have seen what you can so with a little clever C++ coding

Re: Vehicles?
The fact is, it's just not on Data's priority list. The levels are never going to be large enough for a vehicle to be useful, you would be at the other side of the level in no time at all. Even if there were some reason for a vehicle, take a look at movement in the game. It's hard enough to get walking to work right, let alone actual wheels. Sure, you could make the vehicle have fake wheels and just hug the terrain, but keep in mind that the game is intended to be entirely physics-based - while it makes things a bit complex at times, it also allows for a lot of emergent gameplay. Now, that's not to say there won't necessarily be vehicles of some kind, but they're probably not going to be implemented unless there is some special mission requiring them and there are massive changes to the engine.

Wheels seem way simpler than legs to me. They rotate, while legs articulate 3 joints to form an animation. Wheels roll around quite well with the current MO-Terrain collisions; they can go more smoothly and faster than I've ever seen legs do. That's just wheels, vehicles don't necessarily need to be wheeled. They could be legged or flying too, and those are already integrated means of mobility in CC. I can understand if it's not happening because Data simply doesn't care too, but I think it's a better and more compatible potential feature than you give it credit for.
