 The PPSh-41
Hello everyone. I've been working on this gun for a while now:
Image

It's the PPSh-41 that the Soviets used in WWII. Here's the Wikipedia page if you want a little detailed history, but basically it was developed to be cheap and quick to produce, reliable and easy to maintain.

I tried to make it realistically powerful but balanced for Cortex Command. There are two versions, using the two types of mags that were used. The stick mag version fires slower, but is more accurate and quick to reload. The drum magazine version hold 71 rounds and fires very quickly, but is inaccurate and slow to reload.
Edit: And yes, I know magazines have nothing to do with firing rates, but I did it for balancing purposes.

As this is my first mod ever released, feedback and ideas are very much appreciated.

Edit edit: Thanks to Lupin. I used a PPSh-41 sprite I found there as a starting base.

Update: Small sprite edit, all reload sounds line up and the velocity is much slower.

File comment: The PPSh41 was the favored submachine gun used by the Soviets during WWII. It's fairly reliable and rugged. A true classic.

hmm looks interesting, will come back later with results.
Do you mean the sprite dump? because if you do, you need to find the sprite you based it off of, and see if the creator asks for the user to put up credit that the creator made the sprite originally etc.

I'd go check it just in case
EDIT: not too bad, i'm not fond of the fact that the guns have different firing speeds, because the magazine doesnt affect the speed in which the bullet comes out of the barrel etc..... I would think that the drum mag would have slower reload and cost more instead of shooting faster, and make the stick mag have the same firing rate and be cheaper with faster load. Apart from that, work on the sprite a bit more, shading wise to appease more senior modders, and maybe think of adding more guns or stuff like that.

Something about that avatar freaks me out...
Anyways, here's what I think about theses guns:

Stick version: The gun reloads faster than the reload sound lasts; maybe increase the reload time to make it flow? And, the bullets fly at incredible speed: much faster than an AK-47 or SMG. A bit too fast In my opinion.

Drum version: the bullet spread isn't much different than the stick version, and it fires at a dizzying speed. Just a bit short of a bullet hose, in my opinion.

On that note, are you going to consider making a WWII mod? I mean, with not only guns, but soldiers from the nations involved (American, German, Russian, Italian, etc.), Trench-bunker modules, and maybe mounted guns (I think it can be achieved in a similar manner to the Steam howitzer from amrobotics.rte, and could use additional Lua to make it not fire when no one is manning it).

The sprite dump thread doesn't need crediting, it says so in the OP. Here's the original sprite I found in it though, if anyone cares:
Image
(I could hunt down the original guy who did this sprite if you really want me to.)

As for differences in firing rates: I know it doesn't make sense, but I did it for balancing purposes. The stick mag will spew out an almost constant stream of semi-accurate shots, while the 71 round drum mag can mow down nearby opposition, but with long pauses for reloading. The magazine capacities are historically accurate, as well as the firing speed for the drum mag version (as long as the firing speed setting in CC is measured in rounds per minute. Is it?)

I could definitely make the reload sounds line up, it's just a bit extra work :/
And no, making an entire WWII mod would be a looooot of work.

(About my avatar, thanks  It's Thomas from Balloonshop)

Yeah your avatar is a bit creepy.....
I was mainly double checking that you knew about the rules for taking stuff of the sprite dump, because a select few people would go nuts at you if there was a problem.

Like I said, try making them fire at the same speeds, (unless you did already, in which im very stupid) and up the cost of the 71 shot one

If I read this carefully, it says you don't need to get permission to use the sprites, BUT, it doesn't say anything about giving credit!!!

Give credit DUDE, just in case that guy, or some guy yells at you!

Whoops! That sprite didn't come from the sprite dump, it came from its own thread here:
viewtopic.php?f=61&t=12244

I must have been thinking of something else I guess....

Many thanks to Lupin for the original sprite image. Sorry I almost didn't give you credit! I feel bad!

Coool, the ppsh is my favorite weapon in the WWII. (My patriotic sense isn't present now.)
If you want to make more weps, I (maybe) can help.

Your Avatar is really creepy.

And I don't know where you got the idea to change the firing speed based on the magazine. Because magazines don't change firing speed.

much faster than an AK-47
Which it shouldn't. Perhaps slow the round and make both versions have the same accuracy or perhaps inaccuracy since this gun wasn't so great as medium-long distances. red orchestra wOOOYA!

Yeah, pretty much me too

Coming from a giant eyeball in a mouth :P

It's for balancing. I know it doesn't make sense but it makes both gun variations more unique than simply looking different, and the stick mag just runs out of ammo faster.

Which it shouldn't.

But it should, according to Wikipedia:

PPSh-41
Wikipedia wrote:
Rate of fire 900
rounds/min

AK-47
Wikipedia wrote:
Rate of fire
600 rounds/min

ZironJB wrote:

And yes, Red Orchestra is definitely an amazing game. It's the reason I wanted to make the PPSh-41 for CC in the first place
