Those colors are on a different palette. They would not be affected in the least.

oh hi there

Anyways, if someone honestly didn't make a faction because of limitations in the palette then I would love to meet that person and punch them in the face for completely ridiculous cop outs.

Seriously, I fail to understand why factions absolutely have to obey color coding. Is everything in the US military the same color (no). Is everything in ANY military the same color? (no)

Huh, well wouldya look at that.

Right, I wasn't saying anyone would ever not make a faction because they couldn't make it hot pink. It's just that they might want to, can't, and so instead has to go with yellow, green, gray, black, blue, or brown, which sucks.

As for your second point, although it might be true that real-life modern armies* generally don't have color themes, it's important to remember that this is a game, and that there are many perks to having a color scheme for "sides" in games. For one, you can more easily tell foe from friend - something which isn't as much of a problem in real life because we don't see in large pixels. In addition, I'm not sure how fun Cortex Command would be if everyone was just in camouflage.

*could be added here that there are hundreds of examples of non-contemporary color coordinated armies. Take just about any army from a Western nation in the 19th century, for example.

A color scheme is one thing.

Arbitrarily deciding upon a color and then insisting that everything in a faction, NO MATTER WHAT, sticks to that color coding is what mystifies me.

Why would the dummies have BRIGHT YELLOW GUNS, for example?

That's a valid point, I suppose.

Then again, there IS a faction of crash test dummies. I mean, that doesn't exactly make much sense, does it? Same with abundance of crabs. The aesthetics in this game seem to err on the amusing side rather than the realistic.

I'm also not too sure about your use of the word "arbitrarily". When creating a new faction, I think people have a pretty deliberate idea of what color they want it to be. In the very least, they'll want it to look significantly different from the vanilla factions.

Arbitrarily as in they just pick one.

You've got every color in the 256-color rainbow, and your "eliminated" options are approximately green and yellow.

I have a perfect color for it. (255, 0, 255).

Seconded.

Just remembered, add White+Blue to the list, the Whitebots. Maybe brown as well, depending on how the browncoats turn out.

I think we can make a pretty good guess about that, as with the WHITEbots.

Then again, I think there is some merit to Grif's argument. Afterall, the Emporians are mostly white, but you would never confuse any of their stuff with what we've seen of Whitebots. Better spriting which depends more on articulate use of shapes and less on color coding.

Well at least the Coalition and Ronin weapons aren't all colour themed; it's mainly the dummies that have the "arghagh why are they yellow?" thing going.

Yeah, Grif, I don't get why some schools make their students wear uniforms with colors identical to their school's colors, its too orderly, and also makes it so someone from another school cannot infiltrate and act like one of them!
Wait, what?

(Person A: "Hi! I'm Coalition 2.0." B: "What?! I didn't hear anything about that." *B points gun at A* A: "Cool it, cool it! I was sent here to assist you. What? You didn't get the memo?" B: "No... I have been noticing Lenny and the other soldiers have been ignoring me..." *B Sighs...* A: Its okay, chum. Get back to your work now." B: "Okay." *B crys silently in the corner* *Smack* *B falls to the floor unconscious*
Lol.)

I know we've all talked about the "retro-y" attitude the game is supposed to have, but honestly can we just get legit 256-color support? The color limitations really -- uh -- limit what you can do in terms of -- uh -- color. It makes things look stale and reused.

oh i dont know maybe you should look at how every hooman actor in CC's skin is shaded and ♥♥♥♥ learn that skin is never that pink unless you are sunburned or have just come from a sauna.

this whole thread is stupid. if you want a hot pink faction REALLY SO ♥♥♥♥ BAD then attach 1px pink glows to a black actor at every pixel you want to be hot pink. problem solved.
besides that, extra palettes are going to be definable anyway, apparently, according to some of the frameman functions.
all of this "expand my palette so i can use 24bit gradients" is inane. its been going on for years too, though last time it was asked for by some idiot with a signature that would make any graphic designer cry and/or laugh. dont be like that guy, rawtoast.
