Re: Wildlife discussion
CrazyMLC wrote: That was a nice creature, Miles! Make one out of a... bear. Hmm... I don't really like bears, so imma make it something nasty... You and your clones arrive on the planet, near a cave. after a while, your clone troops all start getting sick. just a runny nose and irritation at first, but soon they start to get rashes, start vomiting, difficulty breathing, swelling, and eventually dehydration. it appears to be symptoms of 3 different things, 1) bacterial infection 2) allergic reaction, and 3) mildly corrosive irritants in the air. it seems to be wafting through the air from the nearby cave... Upon investigation you encounter what looks like a large, decrepit bear. its hair is matted and has scabs on it. you notice a number of insects flying around it, and crawling it its fur. its teeth are rotted, its gums are black, and its claws appear just as... rotten... it roars, and vomits at your troops. one of them is hit by the vomit, and it's arm is melted off. you have encountered the plague bear. It has adopted some rather unique survival traits. it intentionally allows itself to become infected with a large number of parasites, and infections, and lives in more toxic regions, having built up an immunity. the result is that they all act as a kind of shield, killing anything like a stronger infection from taking over, and even weakening its prey. it has absorbed a large number of toxic chemicals into its body, and now produces variants of them, capable of digesting rock and metal, and producing poisons. its claws and bites are not only grievous wounds, but are always doomed to multiple kinds of infection, and poisons. due to the nature of the infections, no one case is the same as the other, and new anti-biotics must be made constantly. Special acid resistant armor must be made, as well as new gas masks, capable of handling extremely harsh environments. Mark this place on the map, and kill it with fire.

Re: Wildlife discussion
Wait, how can a Plague Bear with rotting teeth and blackened gums and falling-off claws manage to eat a trooper? I'd think his jaw would fall off before he could chew through armor plating.
Either that or the bear is all like "naked plz then climb in kthx"

Re: Wildlife discussion
i think more benign creatures that add atmosphere would be cool. like large swarms of floating jellyfish, things that buzz around and don't bother you, even if you bother them. Having them behave like real animals would be great, not having them just be monsters. That's what i like about the crabs, they're pretty unassuming and dumb, even after you start shooting them.
