Levelx wrote: I tend to use presets a lot, so there's less fiddling with the buying menu. First preset is a light soldier with the basic shield, pistol, and grenade. Then I can just pick whatever strategic weapon/tool I need for the moment. Next preset is usually an assault combo, like two heavy soldiers with a rifle n' shotgun. I usually take a sniper, a shotgun, a shield, an autopistol and a grenade.

Re: Noob wanting a few tips.
I would really like to know why you guys are doing this, considering the fact that Presets get wiped the instant the mission is over.

You don't waste 10 mins looking through lists to make huge-ass brain presets... and that wasn't my point, anyway.

Re: Noob wanting a few tips.
Watch out for dreadnoughts! They'll tear you apart if you don't have the right equipment. For human actors, aim for their weapons to disarm them (1-4 shots does the trick), and then shoot their heads. Watch out as they sometimes have a grenade go off when they die. When up against dummies aim to either disarm them, or take off their neck. I've had easy one shot kills with a shotgun, so I'd recommend always keeping those with you when fighting a dummy.
Bunker building should be simple, but guarded. Don't waste too much money! If you ever need more start money go into missions.rte, and find the skirmish activities. From there edit the fundsofteam1 line.
Presets are useful if you're in a hurry, but sometimes you wont need them. Rockets are fast, but reckless, and dropships are the opposite. You can also use dropships as bombers. Just load it up with a bunch of impact exploding bombs.
Mods you should download: Unitec, crobos, and KMF are some fun faction mods. Fun single mods are all over the place. you decide those yourself. Occasionally a beta mod will appear in mod making, and those can be fun too. Look in the older mod section as well. Don't let the lock fool you, A lot of it still works with B23, and some were real fun mods.
Good luck, and have fun here.

Dreadnaughts are comically easy: take them from the top.

Re: Noob wanting a few tips.
Yeah, but they're still a big hazard if you flop over and need to get up in their line of sight. Same with the drones. It's suspenseful when you flop over next to one and are trying to scramble away before it notices.
And about AI noticing, don't impatiently click fire while reloading if the enemy hasn't noticed you yet, as they'll hear the noise and probably take you down before you finish.

Re: Noob wanting a few tips.
Thanks again guys for the replies. And only now do I realize I was asking for it. Oh well. Tried the mods you guys suggested and I love them all. Unitech is my favorite so far. I even managed to enable a few of the secret weapons. Seems this place has a good community and nice people.

Re: Noob wanting a few tips.
Not a survival tip, but still useful. Try to find a friend or two that can get into this game and try playing it with them. Cortex Command has an entirely different experience to it when it can be done with friends. I also recommend that when you introduce them to it, show them the game with vanilla (default) content only. Otherwise they can be overwhelmed and confused by the amount of content in the build/buy menu. Also, buy some logitec (or better) gamepads. Most of all, have fun.

Or if you have an XBOX 360, buy a USB controller, then you can use that both for PC and XBOX, it's like a win-win situation. But I'm probably ignorant and unaware of what you can use the Logitech controllers for or something, I have no idea if you can use that for XBOX, but don't quote me and say whether you can or not because then that'll derail the thread.
