Master of Orion, I love it. Its very close to Stardock's Sins of a Solar Empire, but its turn based and has better diplomacy (The most complex diplomacy system I've seem in quite a while). Its also got beautiful pixel graphics.
No link, 'twas made in 1993.

edit: I hate being first (first for page, last for last page).

I'm currently enjoying Devil Survivor on the DS.
The game forces you to fight almost impossible to beat battles against high leveled bosses so you'll have to think of reall good strategies to win.

If you like the turn based squad games, BlueByte's Incubation was a lot of fun. I've been tempted for years to make a clone of it with higher res models.

Silent Storm
and
Silent Storm: Sentinels

Quote:
Silen Storm Features:
* Flexible mission structure with 2 independent campaigns for Allies and Axis
* Destructible environment opens up tactical options - blow out a wall to smash the enemies behind
* Rich character development system including 9 skills as presets for each character and more then 50 skills that can be developed during the course of the game
* 24 non-linear day and night missions; prepare for each mission with randomly generated encounters of any style and difficulty
* Multiple paths to complete the mission, use brute force or stealth tactics - 3 incorporated difficulty levels
* Equip your squad with over 75 authentic WWII weapons including experimental and rare models; discover hidden enemy caches to get even more powerful gear
* Over 40 male and female operatives of various nationalities available, each with unique personality, background, and dialog lines and one of 6 different professions: scout, sniper, soldier, grenadier, medic, and engineer
* Unprecedented realism featuring true 3D and fully destructible environment, real bullet tracing and collision detection and realistic trajectories, speed and piercing performance for different types of bullets, grenades and missiles

Great game, sadly I didn't really get popular.
Story gets more interestinng the farther you proceed, adding sci-fi elements to the WWII scenario.

Silent Storm kicked ass. I heard that Sentinels sucked so I haven't tried it yet. It was as if every building was made out of bricks, and with high enough calibre bullets (or explosives) you could knock out each one individually. Carve holes in floors to jump down, blow door-sized holes in the sides for rapid entry, shoot sniper rounds through walls ... just awesome altogether.

Then after you beat the game and are really good at it, you can play through with a team of ninjas and not use any gunpowder based weapons. Shurikens and knives, baby! woot woot

I didn't like the whole alien/future tech angle it kinda degrades to but the original version I played had an option to turn that off.

Your thread is invalid. Settlers of Catan isn't in every post.
