While I do agree that Data is a bit really absent from the community, I actually think that these are the best forums, due to, believe it or not, the lack of "friendlyness". Most other forums around are just a bunch of people that don't know squat about each other and don't care about it: they're usually just there to have a problem solved or expose their opinions on a particular matter. Out there, it's all just "Why, excuse me sir, but could you bother to (if it's not too much of a trouble for your honourable person, of course) explain me something over this matter that troubles me?" and "But of course, young fellow. Let me share my humble opinions over the matter."

Every time I go to one of those forums, I feel like I'm talking to a bunch of computers reading eighteenth-century romance novels. There's no personality, no individuality, just a gray mob of users moving in a single uniform flow. But here in DRL, when I see us shouting and insulting each other, fighting for even the smallest things, laughing at our own silly jokes and making fun of our own mistakes, I know that I'm talking to real people, each with their own opinions, points of view and experiences, and totally no fear of showing them. Truth be told, it makes me feel all warm and cozy.

Of course, a bit less flaming/trolling would be nice, but, all in all, this is probably the safest port around in this big and furious sea we call "The Internet".

oooooor you could just use the REPORT function, and we will deal with the trollers, flamers with best of our ways..
I mean, an Admin is needed when something hueg is happening. Like... i dont know... cant think of anything now. I KNOW they can take off, and give Titles, remove sigs, avatars... give away group permissions, and other things that Global Moderator can... and thats all iirc
And Global Moderators like us are the ppl who you will send those reports, and we will take care of. They can ban, unban, modify posts, delete them, approve, etcetc.
So yeah.. thats all

It makes me feel like I'm surrounded by ten-year-olds. Perhaps there's a balance to be struck where people act like mature adults who can express their opinions without throwing a screaming fit.

Good show, I must say. You're able to point out that a moderator isn't a PERFECT HUMAN BEING that does EVERYTHING according to some unwritten book about moderating. Hell, it's not like any of us moderators can't express personality that is beyond our job as policemen in this forum. That's like saying policemen are horrible for accidentally cursing at a suspect and that it should be cracked down on with a righteous hammer of skull ♥♥♥♥

The police analogy is an interesting one because, just like cops, moderators and their backseat brethren will stalwartly defend each other against any criticism, regardless of how accurate it is. Again, I think it's possible to strike a pleasant middle ground between being "a PERFECT HUMAN BEING" and being a racist who types and thinks like a child. You're pretty much in that middle ground, so don't feel the need to get all defensive on behalf of that other guy who's just making you look bad anyway.

I sincerely doubt that Skiv is a racist, he merely posted it as a joke. I don't know about you but I frequently laugh at racist jokes even if I am not one myself. And saying that we defend each other is not true either. If I ♥♥♥♥ up on a level that warrants notice then I seriously doubt any of my so called "brethren" will come to my aid
