Digging that Data's being proactive about the forums for once. Sup bro, don't mind Grif, he's got illusions of grandeur and fails to realize that he's second only to me. Walk softly, carry a big stick, and be the only admin that ever considers what the community (and by community I mean IRC) wants (well, TLB does, but he's spineless with the other admins) and you'll quickly establish yourself as the cool parent.

Re: Introducing the Spanish Weasel
Good job Data; Trying to be proactive about the forums but ends up not bothering to talk to them to find a solution. Instead of working with the community to work out the problems and issues, he just hires more police. Christ on a sidecar. Bans and warnings are not what will solve this forums problems, and as such adding new staff helps absolutely nothing. Quote: A chill guy that now finds himself with a banhammer in one hand and a pretty cool community in the other. Carrot and Stick attitude will do you absolutely no good here. Backhanded compliments backed by thread of ban will garner you absolutely zilch. Most of the idiots who are dealt with using banhammer are not taxing the resources of the current staff. That having been said, I'm curious about what kind of "collective"-ness you plan on bringing to the table, considering the only unity this board has is IRCers versus normal forumpeoples.

Re: Introducing the Spanish Weasel
These forums are never going to be "friendly" because Data has failed to give the community a sense that they should be nice to each other out of respect for him. Mostly because he doesn't communicate (here, or on the dev log).

Forums just naturally develop a community feeling due to the type of people that colonize it. Thus, our little community here has developed the hard love attitude because that is how the influential people here work.

Yes, that is what forums tend to do in the absence of respect for what brought them together.

Re: Introducing the Spanish Weasel
Are you implying that none of us here respect the game?
Look at the Mod Releases subforum. How about the Scene Releases subforum? How many contributions of varying quality do we get to those sections? Look how much discussion goes on about game mechanics.
What you said sounds fancy and educated and hoity-toity, but what its really a thinly veiled insult to the members of this community.
...Lack of respect for the game? Give me a break.
Oh, and if your argument is about respect for Data: Maybe that would be valid, if the developer in question gave any respect to the customers he serves. He seems to have forgotten about that its not about him, its about his clients.

Didn't anyone ever teach you how to play hard to get? In any case, to the Weasel - what are your opinions on restricting distribution of certain mods on the forums because of their content?

And I agree, it's not the community's fault, it's Data's fault for being utterly out of touch.

Anyway, new admin/mod/something. Welcome, and carry out swift retribution on those who post bullet hoses. I'm thinking the way to dissuade them is not to just lock/warn, but to effectively stop all future ones, sign up the account to horse porn. Just throwing an idea out there.
