Re: Numgun
Cool story bro. You don't own this place. So why do you care? Is you epenor too small? Need an indie game forum to inflate it?
Too bad, we suck at that, find another place.

And I doubt prom would take stealing his artwork for any other project lightly. I think a large part of this issue in regards to vanilla content is ignorance. Promster probably doesn't know he should be doing it.

Have you emailed or sent this idea to Data/Prom? @CrazyMLC: Good to hear someone is with me!

Re: Compression idea
I say the idea sucks. Compressing and decompressing crap is a waste of time since either way you will be able to access the content one way or the other.
Another thing is that I love how open CC is right now. Its a ♥♥♥♥ modders paradise right now. No restrictions or stupid procedures, just pure function.

Re: Compression idea
I think the major point is that you could just upload this compressed file and drop it in cortex and have it work. All the stuff about openness was an aside.

You can't possibly be serious about this.

Re: Compression idea
On the contrary, our hard drives are too thin to unzip a file.

Too fat to unzip a file? Come the ♥♥♥♥ on. Or instead to saying "you are to lazy to unzip file" you could say that "this idea is bad because <insert why>" I think this would be a good idea. Same thing was made for another game. You place zips in some folder, and the game reads the insides of the zip.. Hmm Nummie i have an idea. Please wait..

Re: Compression idea
...
You guys didn't realize that you'd still have to pack mods in a zip to share with others and transfer it to the internet?
Not only that but people may prefer various zipping formats ranging from .zips, .rars, .7z and many more. Kind of defeats its purpose eh.
I'm only ok with this crap if it wont complicate modding. And by that I mean I can still keep my rte folders like they are now and CC would run them like they are now.
Even then its seems like a waste of time to make ♥♥♥♥ like this if it doesnt help anything but making you lazy kids skip the part OF UNZIPPING A FILE LOL.
Jesus. You kids ARE handsome. Especially you, THOR. Massive hunk of a man

The reason we pack mods in a zip now is because they're folders. Folders can't normally be transferred over the internet. If, however, mods were a compressed single file, then you could easily attach them without first packing them, and they would be as easily downloaded and installed, since you just move one file out of your download folder into your cortex folder.

Re: Compression idea
Would they work as normal rte folders like now? I'd be really cool to zip/unzip a mod you're making all the time. Especially when you're balancing it, no?
And these compressed files, are they .zip or some wierd .lol format? Many hosting sites wont accept your awesome.lol files and you'd be forced to pack them like a .rar or .zip or something else.
You'd be forced to move your perfectly delicious buttock and unzip it anyways.

Re: Compression idea
Whos handsome now, eh? You'd just have an unzipped version that you would compress into the zip but still have it be there. (What I mean is: Folder A.rte is zipped into Folder A.zip. Folder A.zip is created but Folder A.rte is still there, ready to be edited and re-compressed.)
There might even be an editor like I mentioned. (That would be really nice)

Re: Compression idea
Or, Cortex could do both formats. Backwards compatibility ftw.
EDIT: .rte for development and tinkering, .zip/.rzp (rte + zip, I dunno) for distribution.
And some sites may not accept a new format, but that is ok. There are plenty of sites that don't care a lick. Just as free ones. And if you really need to, you can always chain them up, at the risk of alienating those who have the problem with .zips today.

Re: Compression idea
Numgun, you just asked everyone if they are too lazy to unzip a file.
As a modder, are you too lazy to rezip a folder?
