Svchost.exe problems
Allright, I had to nuke my laptop twice already because of ths imp. From what I've gathered it's caused by the automatic update service. When ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan, it's gonna cut off my laptop from the internet and throw down my firewall. I'm posting with an uncertain future. Any help regarding this infernal svchost.exe problem?

Re: Svchost.exe problems
svchost.exe stands for Service Host. It can be ennumerated several times for any number of reasons. Your audio drivers, your video drivers, your network adaptor, your SCSI or SATA drives, any peripherals are generally managed by a svchost instance.
If you're having issues with Automatic Update, disable it. Don't go around ending random svchost processes, because you will crash the computer (and potentially cause errors requiring another "nuke").
Turn off Auto Update. If you think something is giving you problems, disable it.
Although I don't see the correllation between Automatic Update and your ethernet controller, but idk you seem to be the professional.
Are you using a legit, genuine copy of Windows?

Don't kill service host processes.

Unless it's a fake svchost.

Re: Svchost.exe problems
In that case, if it passed your anti-virus, and has it's roots dug in, you are screwed.

Re: Svchost.exe problems
It was a clean hard drive reformat and reinstall. Right now I'm in a state of desperation; I'm nuking my laptop yet again. Last nuking had took my whole folder full of WIPs and CC mods (mine and what I have downloaded). I hadn't rebackuped it in my external drives. There goes a faction WIP (I've done 3 soldiers and the weapon graphics, now it's gone) I'll remake it as soon as my laptop is in good order. All I can say is that I didn't kill the process, it quit on me (usually while connecting to the net, about 7-10 minute or so), even after I disabled the Automatic Update service. This nuisance must end now, it's taken so many casualties already.

Re: Svchost.exe problems
Sometimes I get more than 10 of those running at a time. I close all but one and I'm fine.
Also, never do those automatic updates.

It's the only kind of windows that works for my laptop (my dad's got a legit XP Home Edition but it wouldn't register my HD). For the last year this problem never reared its ugly head, but why now? I never even touched the automatic updates before this... anyways, for the mod recovery program, I've put up another thread in the requests section. I just hope no hacker wipes out the entirety of Data Realms' attachments again... When this problem is over, I'll redo my faction. And redownload all the mods I've lost. I was too careless last time.
