Re: Ypsilon Reborn ))AAL Discussion
Graphics cards are oriented to graphics. Be it pixels, voxels, 3D models, vectors, or the like. Within the scope of this game, he idealized CPU would coordinate things between a GPU, a PPU (physics processing unit), and your physical memory. Since Data does not include graphical or scientific accelerating, the CPU has to do all the work. It is perfectly possible for two computers--one with an 8800GTS, the other with integrated chipset--to run the game with equal performance, ceterus paribus.¡
And lag isn't that hard to avoid. The old Ypsion cannon spawned ♥♥♥♥ like humans, dummies, crafts, and various other things with large collision counts. The usability of the Ypsilon increased exponentially if you extricated those gibs from the effect. There was plenty of other optimization that could have been done--and I am fairly certain dumbgun is going to expand upon that.
No one ever wants a laggy game, if given the option to not have one.
The reason why everyone is willing to take lag is because we have a game that is not properly optimized for various ahrdware configuration (ie, no support for peripheral processing devices). Once we have--at a minimum--proper graphics acceleration, you will not be so eager to see lag, because lag will no longer be an indicator of "awesomeness (not that it should be to begin with)."

All right, I concede with the whole graphical debate, but what about mods that are actually CPU intensive? Such as Telekinesis? Those won't get much better with just a shift of graphics over to the GPU. I return to, and continue to back up, the statement that lag isn't good, it's just hard to avoid on some things.

If you think that then STOP ORDERING HIM TO PUT LAG IN.
Just because something good SOMETIMES has lag doesn't mean that something that lags is good!

Just because something good SOMETIMES has lag doesn't mean that something that lags is good! You are being just as bad as THOR. Lemme make it clear. LAG IS BAD. LAG IS NOT GOOD. I DO NOT WANT LAG. I NEVER SAID I WANTED LAG. IT IS MERELY HARD TO AVOID.If you want, I can put it in a color as well, so it stands out more.

Re: Ypsilon Reborn ))AAL Discussion
Back when we made those epic superweapons like mapwipes, nukes and orbital lasers, we had fun making the stuff they launch as powerful as possible just for the sheer fun of oblitirating everything for sure. And this involved making the particle count as high as possible and the lag produced by it kind of gave the superweapon the "delay of awesome" as if the game would have just slowed down to highlight the epic moment. It was fun its own, but after modding for years and facing lag countless times, the fun of the lag wears off quickly. xD Luckily we've got a whole load of ways to minimize lag for new superweapons. If someone would release a mapwipe like maximdude back then (my friend loved abusing those ) new users would defenately want to try it out the moment they see the stuff the mapwipe can do, but those older and more experienced members wont have the same fun from it mainly due to the lag and the fact they've already seen it and had fun with it before.

Re: Ypsilon Reborn ))AAL Discussion
First and foremost, I am not going to discuss this after this post. I'm moving on to other things, like actual suggestions for the Ragnarok. Speaking of which, maybe the thread title should be changed to reflect the new name. metal chao wrote: Hyperkultra wrote: EPIC LASER REQUIRES LAG. IT FEEEEEDS ON IT!!! OM NOM NOM. Oh really? Well as long as you are agreeing with me I am happy Good, but 2 things in my defense. 1. I never actually said I wanted lag. 2. I was being funny back then. As of 6 or so posts ago, I started acting serious. The two chunks of my posting should be swiftly decorrelated from each other.

You know, most of what Thor types is either a face-melting flame or a well written arguement, the essence of which I have taken the time to point out to you. No more bitching and big letterz cause we cannut reed.

And sometimes it's both. I think there's not much left to talk about until Numgun releases a beta of some sort.

Yeah, I've got alot of material now I needed, now its just up to me to build it. I'll be back later when I need further opinion on things when I get something done.
