That doesn't make it good. Being better than mediocrity is not a compliment.

TV shows are a matter of taste. If you don't like it, then you probably shouldn't go into a 'yay Futurama' thread and poop on everyone else's parade. It's meeean.

Just because something is above average doesn't mean it is better than half of everything.

First off, Futurama is definitely not above average. It is a poorly animated, poorly written show.

Secondly, to be above mediocre does not put you in the realm of above average.

Thirdly, being mediocre does not make it better than half of all television. Personally, most of television is mediocre. Nothing stands out, everything is just a rehash of a sitcom or drama. There is very little good TV that isn't on like, Discovery or History.

And I'll voice my opinion all I like, tyvm =D

Yeah, I've got nothing against you voicing your opinion. But I do wonder why you would come into a 'yay Futurama' thread just to talk about it being a poor quality show. Not to say that you are, but it would seem like you're doing it just to rile up the Futurama fans 'yay Futurama'-ing in it...

Because I can? I was going to try to have a dialog about why people like this stupid show, but TheClam decided he was going to try to one up me (and utterly fail, because he is 10 years old).

Assuming that TV shows follow a bell curve, being above the highest of the bell curve, means you are in the top 1/2 of whatever.

Yeah, but I made it pretty clear I think most television sucks balls, so clearly it doesn't follow a normal distribution.

No, he has an opinion.

My opinion- There are better shows than Futurama. I do like it, don't get me wrong, but I'm not that excited.

Another opinion: I've watched a number of episodes and never really enjoyed doing so. Personally, I just about jumped out of my chair when I saw a rerun of Arrested Development on G4. I just don't get the Futurama brand of humor. Or Family Guy. Or most cartoons, since they appeal to a lower denominator than I'm comfortable with. In general, it seems like the larger the group of people something is designed to appeal to, the less likely it is to appeal to me.

In regards to what venn said, they won't. Did you see the last two movies? ♥♥♥♥ and shittier in terms of that feel. Hell the last one didnt even bother making new ♥♥♥♥ up for the 31st Century, much less even making it a parody of something in the 20th Century. i.e. Slurm = Coca Cola. No, this is apparently too much for them. I died inside when I heard them say iPod. Not to mention the other countless things that just... destroyed what I had come to love.

This is why I was afraid to watch the movies.

You've saved me, thank you.

Arrested Development never got the fame it deserved. I still say that has to be one of the funniest shows in the last 20 years.

I hate to hijack a thread, but I do have to say that Arrested Development is the only sitcom that I've ever liked. Everything else has to pause every 5 seconds for a fake audience to attempt to get you to laugh at a joke that everyone saw coming and nobody would think as witty were it not for the mob effect.

Fortunately, Futurama doesn't suffer from laugh track syndrome, but nevertheless is predictable. And above all else, I need spontaneity in my humor or it just seems forced. It's absolutely impossible to get every joke in an episode of Arrested development in a single run-through, just as it is impossible to miss something the writers thought would be funny in any of the dozens of other shows out there.

Also, they're making an Arrested Development movie with the original cast, to go into shooting late this year with a possible release in 2010. I'm happy, though also somewhat nervous, considering the apparent curse on such ventures. Here's hoping.
