Im thinking how should I resurrect the legendary Ypsilon satellite ion cannon for the next AAL update to which I'm intending to bring it back. The old ypsilon you can play with even now(AAL ExTech, see my sig.) is VERY old and overly outdated and even buggy, despite all the giant effort I did to make it work back then.

Now the thing is, I'm wanting to redo the whole thing. With all the epic it had ofcourse and more if possible. With the new features I could only dream of back in the day when I made it in most hackiest ways ever, I can do much more with this baby.

Instead of a single plain ion cannon satellite, it would be a large space craft.
Sort of like an space weapons platform destroyer ship thing.
The ion cannon would be only one of its functions. Other could be missile barrage, surface laser sweep, multiple laser/flak/cannon shots from the turrets, MAC gun (the one in halo2) and a totally overkill aplha strike that combines all, plus overcharges the main ion cannon for a nice "limit cancel" shot.

Ofcourse, you wont see the craft itself, since its in space.

Now how would the various attacks work?
I've though of different variants and such how the target could be marked/painted:

-Painter gun
(A rifle with a sniper zoom that sets a target to strike.)

-Crosshair Craft from Buy menu
(Craft is a large crosshair that you can "fly" anywhere you want and then hit scuttle or return the crosshair to the top border to cancel the strike.)

-Beacon bomb
(a throwable/placable grenade/bomb that you must run and put, then the attack will commence where it was.)

Personally I'd go with the crosshair thing.


Now then the second thing is what sort of attacks should it have?
Having duplicate attacks like a missile swarm airstrike and a meteor shower would be lame, so the point is to have an attack for different purposes and do the best ones and maybe even combine some.
By default, it will have the giant ion cannon that will penetrate a bunker and cause a small burst unlike the old ypsilon final blast that was equally as destructive as a nuke.


So this discussion is basically ment for the most epic and best super weapon for CC. The Ypsilon Weapons Platform Destroyer.

Orbital Railgun. No boom, just a straight shot to the center of the planet. Or at least through 20 feet of solid concrete. And enemies.

I HAVE AN IDEAZ.

The LOSS beam. If you fire it at any actor, it gibs them, keeps going. 5 minutes later it spawns a cybernetic demon. It doesn't matter how powerful they are, they die over the course of 10 seconds, slowly and painfully, whether or not you keep the beam trained on them. The cybernetic demon would scream in pain to announce its arrival. The idea is to cause as much pain as possible, and strike fear into the hearts of your enemies. If the enemy lasts 5 minutes more, zombies spawn from the corpses. And I like the bomb idea. Ypsilon is too complicated for a painter, so you have to use a gigantic beacon. The craft one could be too limited.

I HAVE ANOTHER IDEAZ.

The improbability beam. The actors have a chance of converting to your team, a chance of having nothing happen, and a chance of exploding in a red mist.

I HAVE ANOTHER IDEAZ.

The hive bomb. When you shoot it, it drops a bomb. The bomb explodes into a cloud of heat-seeking missiles.

I HAVE ANOTHER IDEAZ.

The missile beam. Shoots a swarm of missiles so thick, if you aimed it over someone's head it would blot out the sun. It would be sprited as a swarm of missiles in a straight line about ypsilon beam thick, and it would basically be an impenetrable could of missiles.

Now don't tell me you're not going to use ANY of them.

Could you redo the Ypsilon? It's not as fun when a giant laser instantly slices straight through your base instead of slowly melting away your roof.

Combine all 3.
Make the bomb spawn a painter and use that to spawn a crosshair actor from the ceiling, costing funds of course, and make it controllable via Abomb method.

Use your crosshair method, but make it a rocket with Lua based movement so it doesn't have the wobbly feel that regular craft movement has. And make it not collide with anything of course.

As for the projectile, just have the downward raep laser. No ridiculous explosion, that's what your TTB is for. Just an infinitely powerful vertical laser that destroys absolutely anything within a horizontal range around the target.If the terrain killing could be made gradual but unstoppable, that would be best.

Btw, I'm taking multiple different attacks. Its a large spaceship armed with various systems like the ion cannon, missile arrays, bombs, secondary laser/energy turrets.

So you could basically order different attacks depending on what you need with respective costs.

Like if you want to mop up the surface, fire a missile barrage to destroy the surface entirely with near-nuclear missiles.

Or you want classic-case ion cannon beam melting the base into pudding you can order that.

I also want to make a *final* attack that would combine and overcharge the ship's weapon systems.

So think this way: Its a large spaceship, much cooler than tradestar midas and has lots of super weapons you can use to perform different attacks for certain situation for certain cost.

How do you make the beam not muzzleflash hacky, as in, hiding the bullets behind the beam muzzle?
And please make it so that it melts slowly, not even hit a brain that's almost below the screen.

Cargo Jettison: Drops a random piece(s) of space junk onto zeh enemies. Can range from zombie heads to a VERY large jettisoned piece of broken space station. Boom, haha!

Gun of Nums: Shoots large numbers. Like the EPIC FAIL mod a bit back. Except with numbers. Nums. Shot by a Gun.

I already said that it will melt and not instantly zap to it.
But I can assure you it will melt it GOOD.

And dont worry about the effects and functionality, I'm the one to handle that, you guys go crazy and spam me with ideas that are fun/awesome/cool and useful and have a purpose as a super weapon.

Its a goddamn godmode superweapon platform I'm doing.

Painter gun would be the most effective method of designating a target.

Also, maybe do a "heal radius" type attack, similar to the Spirit of Fire's ability in Halo Wars?

I would stay with a more classic approach: big gun comes down from the sky, fires a huge laser downwards, then shoots a big plasma orb that explodes killing everything. Or maybe something like the last boss in Iji: the cannon shoots several smaller lasers with trajectories that arc upwards, and then fall through the whole battlefield. Or maybe converge to a single unlucky actor. :P


IDEA: make the Malfunctioning Cannon! A big Ypsilon cannon appears and starts charging a shot. After a few seconds, it starts a countodown: Time Until Big Laser Beam: 3... 2... 1... FIRE!

And then, nothing happens. After a second, a big puff of smoke comes out of the cannon's barrel. Damaged machinery sound effects play. Parts of the cannon explode and fire comes out of everything. The whole cannon falls on the battlefield, exploding in a big, deadly and satisfying blast of plasma.
Oh yeah.

-Preloaded Craft Troopers They look like back masked men in special Special Ops Black Armor Hold AP Carbines
-Turbo Laser Turrets [I can't stand star-wars. But can't you make auto-aiming turrets?
