Would a 1000 square foot room that has a two story high ceiling be structurally sound if it was made primarily out of cinderblocks, or is two stories too high to go with such thin walls and no middle floor for support? When I picture it in my head, I just see everything wobbling over.

You should probably go ask a structural engineer instead of a bunch of 12-20 year olds on a video game 'General Topic' forum before you go experimenting.

I am assuming you mean a square room, in which case - what are you making the roof out of?

Also, a single layer of cinderblocks two stories high is not going to be structurally sound, no. A few layers locked together in standard brick patterns would be better, but it's hardly ideal construction materials for tall buildings.

Forget cinderblocks, do it from paper mâché ..... or Raditz. Idiotic reference no one probably will get anyway aside. I have to agree with Dauss here (as much as I would love to give you some "good" advice ), Data Realms forum isn't best place to ask such questions.

If the walls were thick enough, and the roof was made out of a strong, extremely light material, it should be fine.

Oh don't worry - I live in a city and have a pretty much 0 chance of building anything smaller than a matchbox in my current hometown. I've just been daydreaming about constructing my own home when I get out of college. I have a hard time fantasizing about unrealistic things, so I just wanted to check on this one thing.

I do have some construction experience though, so this is something I am seriously considering, though of course only with the consultation of a licenced contractor, as I think is legally required.

Pillars was the alternative I was thinking of, but thicker walls/higher quality materials works too, I suppose...

I'm pretty good at visualising things, and my new school block is being made out of cinderblocks cemented in around a metal framework.

The way you say it is that they are just slabbed on top of each other, can you even imagine that being safe (wind blows and the whole thing would fall over, and with all that potential energy you'd be deader than dead)? If you want to be crushed go ahead, if you don't you need to use cement. even two cinderblock thick wall would still be dangerous, three is the bare minimum I would go without concrete... but then again I don't know why I'm telling you this because you'd not be allowed to build it anyway... at least in the UK, JMEMantzel on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/user/JMEMantzel) has built a hangar, three story dome and plans to build like a massive tower (one story done) and is building a "giant robot" and he's never talked about planning permissions or the like, so the laws are probably different.

You'd need a very good foundation, and to put in a wooden frame, and have cement. Not just cinder blocks.
Even then the second story might not hold a person.
