Anyways I still haven't started. But I'm still planning on throwing something together.

...What the ♥♥♥♥? I typed in "win".

Oh well. In the end, it's just pixels on your screen.

Why are you all complaining?
Dropouts means less competition!
Now I'm going to win! Just as soon as I actually make something.

But yes, as Grif has already said, .ini modding is certainly not obsolete.

which was the point I was making, Lua is useless if you can't make a good ini-based mod, which whitty has been riding glow spam and popularity and not actual ability. Honestly, the only reason I think whittys mods are so 'awesome' is that they look nice. they sure as hell don't work nice half the time. but whitty aside thats the point of this contest I think.

The fact that names aren't tied to mods, the good mods will win and the bad ones will fail, because there will be NO name recognition, and I have a theory : 80% of the 'good moders' will all suck compared to the rest of us because we'll actually try, something there used to not doing.

whitty probably won't win except off of possible name recognition because everyone knows what his mods look like, bright blue or yellow glow rape, with little to no shading, and its usually all white or grey. if grif is involved his mods will probably be grey, overpowered, and have an instant-kill rape bomb, those factors make there mods recognizable without names, which is why I used alot of glow, to make it more indistinguishable, because EVERYONE makes mods look nice by 'hey look, glow'. if we all use glow, whittys mod will fade to the back, and since there all explosions, the overpowered insta-kills of grif will also fade to the back, in terms of quality, if noone can tell who's is whos.

Everyone has sort of a patented style of modding. My style? I make grab-bag mods that are unrelated to any of my other stuff except maybe in name. none of my sprites have ever matched, none of my sounds have ever matched. that makes it impossible to identify me. I am fairly confidant that I will at a minimum, get 3rd. This is honestly the best mod I've ever made, its flawless, and I'm damn proud of it.

Everyone who says that .ini mods are for babys or noobs, will have an unwarranted bias, and limit themselves to ONLY use lua, which will be HARDER to do, to get the SAME result. I'm not saying using lua is bad, I'm saying excluding the use of ini based content is serious hindering, and will result in noone being able to make a good .ini only mod, which will be a requirement because quite frankly, Lua LAGS. I actually checked. I play on a map, It runs fine, if I add bunker modules that use lua, my framerate HALVES. so all everyones doing by using lua non stop with nothing else, is going to do, is lag the game to hell and noone will mod anymore, except people who know that the bulk of a mod should be in .inis with a little help with lua.

And on that note, DUH, I have a question,

You didn't include a statement of "one entry per person" did you? so, enter as often as you like.
Can I make a second entry? (just kidding, that would seriously bloat the voting) I'm only asking because I just watched real genius the other day and it gets me every time how lazlow wins 80% of the prizes in the frito-lays contest.

Mexican Jumping Clone didn't have a good .ini base, but most people
still thought it was fairly entertaining (and that's the goal of mods).

Code:
DataModule
AddActor = AHuman
   CopyOf = Soldier Heavy
   PresetName = Darklink
   ScriptPath = Hunter.rte/Medic1.lua

Also, I think he said you could enter more than once.

Miles what the hell?

The argument is finished and then you write an extra essay about it?
Well done. If I was a moderator I'd be very annoyed.
Of course I'm not so don't worry about it.

But at least the Special Olympics dudes do it with SPORTIVITY. And they don't hurt people's feelings. Right. Steam pressure released. Moving on.

So, about all of you (including the 'o great modders') who are chickening out due to lua, you do realize that you can just take a break from all dem studying and make a decent explosive in about 30 minutes-1 hour right? If you're gunning for excellency, well look how many days we have! If you guys work on your mod at least an hour a day, you'd have a blastin', front-door-kickin' explosive that breaks new ground (epsecially if you're a 'great modder') by two days before submission deadline. But you guys think that lua's everything. Well, suit yourselves, but us contestants would be the ones who are winning, not you.

So, I strongly encourage sportivity be fostered in this contest, and the other contests yet to come. I don't care if they use lua or not! I think the only reason to drop out from this current contest is either computer breakdown or increasing life pressure, not lua. I agree with miles, about learning lua only after B23 is out... I can't say the same myself because I'm still new even at .ini modding, but hey, I'll try. I'd pick up a bit of lua here and there, but not cramming them while in a contest.

Sheesh, my fingers voice my opinions like wildfire. So, honorable forum-goers, I also remind you to vote objectively. Even though there will be no names posted on the mods, you'd have to do away with the prejudice towards the maker of the mod; You judge the MOD, not the MODDER. Heck, someone could be vile and troll-ey, but if they make a beautiful mod I'll vote on it! Forget about titles of 'legendary modder' or the misconceptions of 'this mod has X, it means it's modder Y's' and 'modder Y sucks because he's a forum noob'. Be a professional human being.

Hmmm..... nobody's actually ever seen a mod by me made from scratch... oh, this will be fun.
Oh and guys: try not to post pics of your mod or otherwise reveal the identity of the modder that made a certain entry.
Things will be much more fun if it's left anonymous until voting is closed.

Actually,

Sorry to kill your fun there Miles.

This. It won't be any fun if people vote on who they like more.

EDIT: On Lua: I didn't learn ini modding in a day, so I don't see why I should force myself to learn Lua in a day. I'll pick it up eventually from looking at the examples in the basegame and making small mods.

@Miles: Personally, I think the reason they lag so much is because of how often their calculations function is called. In my gravity lift map, I set it to only do calculations if 75ms had passed. The time between won't be noticed by the user, and it takes a lot off of the processor.

Now that I know the mods will be rated anonymously I actually wish I had entered.

Edit: Just re-read the description and realised it's not too late to join :)

The max gibwound limit is 2147483647 for me.
Interesting.
It's 2^30 - 1 btw, and is probably the same for most of the other variables.
