Fan-creation in progress!
In tribute to Cortex Command (And because I need a new avatar for Second Life), I am currently creating a Dummy! Just your ordinary Cortex Command style Dummy, popped from two dimensions to three. My own way of fanboying over the awesomeness. I'll continue to update with new images every second day or so as progress is made. I will admit, a few liberties will be taken artistically (A lot of detailing ability is gained in the transition from 256-color sprite to animated polymesh character), but I suspect it'll be awesomeness. Cheers, Data and co! Current overall progress image below: Mods: - May 6; Began laying out basic figure reference points, sculpted and textured head, made generic placeholder orange textures - May 7; Sculpted and textured torso, began jetpack, added jetpack attachments, began groundwork for pelvis - May 8; Pelvis and legs! Now he's a useless bullet-catcher without arms! And without any help from stray flying dropship bits!

Epic win. That is all that can be said about this.

Re: Fan-creation in progress!
I don't think anyone, even someone who plays Cortex Command every single day, would recognize a Dummy model in SL as a CC fan-creation. Remember, crash test dummies actually exist. Still, very neat, keep it up I got kicked off a few SL servers back in "the day" for a combination of distasteful content creation and refusal to rollplay in designated roll-playing areas. 'Place scares me sometimes.

Re: Fan-creation in progress!
The jetpack that'll be on the back of it (And LSL scripted to activate when I enter fly mode) will probably clue them in that it's definitely not your average test dummy.

Re: Fan-creation in progress!
Just give it servos, and people will know it for what it is. But shouldn't this go in media?

Re: Fan-creation in progress!
Ack. Pardon my newness; If it should, I hope someone can move it, but there's other fanwork threads in this forum too (The MSPA thread among others that I've seen). Seemed like the place.
(Edit: And on a second glance at the forum index, now I see 'Media' at the top. Drr drr drr...)

Re: Fan-creation in progress!
It's okay, if it should go there a mod or admin will move it. As it is this avatar is just epic. Keep up the good work

Yeh, for visibility you should have made a crab. Maybe a coalition heavy. Oh well. Do keep us posted.

Re: Fan-creation in progress!
The one that would stick out the most would be a brainbot or dreadnought, because no one would've seen them before.

Re: Fan-creation in progress!
I suppose there's nothing to say I couldn't just create a whole collection of CC avatars and props. Updating shortly with more recent images; The dummy now has most of a torso, a neck, and a head, with the jetpack starting to take shape. May still add some details to the textures, but... the sort of matte plastic look it has right now is rather appropriate.
(Edit: And done! Will post another update tomorrow. Taking a break from working on it for now. Also, what do you folk want to see done most, next? Crabs? Dreadnought? Coalition Heavy? Discuss!)

I hate Second Life, but that's a really nice mesh/model.

Low graphics? You mean the total lack of antialiasing, or the restriction to reasonably low resolution single-sphere UV'd textures? SL is not known for modern graphics, unfortunately; They're still using an OpenGL version that dates back to 2002. No antialiasing support and they only very recently patched in (poorly) a few basic predefined shaders with very little use.
