Yup.

Lucky us.

Well, lucky half of us anyway.

I'm wondering if the warning levels were thought out properly. It's certainly a big deal, but I wouldn't say it was as big as the warning level would say. (atleast, not outside of mexico anyway)

Offtopicish: My friend started a game of Pandemic 2 in Madagascar. That fact alone allowed him to kill everyone on the planet.

The Swiss are going to make a killing off that stuff..

But yeah, the warning levels are really only meant to describe the spread of the disease, not lethality.

2 cases in Finland iirc.

I thought about a post-apocalyptic world in Finland, but I got depressed when I realized no-one would notice anything wrong since the whole country is just a one big ♥♥♥♥ forest.

They'll never actually NEED half their population in tamiflu because
A: It won't spread to half the population, ever.
B: 3 goto 2

Yeah. It transfers through contact with other people.

and, who the hell hasn't heard of the spanish flu?

NO IT IS NOT. Read the facts. Influenza is spread like Influenza, not like Salmonella. I am sick of people giving me funny looks because I order bacon for breakfast at my local pancake joint.
Also, swine flu has 640 cases worldwide, out of 6.7 billion people in the world. Call that a Pandemic? Congratulations, you're a paranoid freak.

WE HAVE GONE OVER THIS. 640*2*2*2*2=10240 CONGRATULATIONS IS TEN THOUSAND ENOUGH FOR A PANDEMIC?

Pandemic is geographic rather than a numbers thing, this is nearly widespread enough to count as a pandemic.

It is not a threat though. I have never been affected by any of these issues, nor has anyone I interact with on a daily basis. I don't see what it has to do with us rich people who can afford flu vaccines.

I would like to take a moment to ask everyone a question, or rather a favor.

If you catch swine flu, please post saying that you caught it, and compare to regular flu. Also pic of you wearing those weird blue medical masks they give people.

The point of a ♥♥♥♥ disease is that the numbers don't remain constant. It spreads. Exponentially. The numbers I've been feeding you are based on everyone giving it to two people. Every time you cough, sneeze, blow your nose, ♥♥♥♥ breathe, you release billions of bacteria into the environment. it only takes a few to infect someone. Walking through a crowd one could potentially infect hundreds. Imagine an outbreak somewhere like New York where everyone's packed like sardines, and constantly on the move and in contact with often poor hygiene. An infection rate far higher than two per person is far, far more likely. So please, shut the ♥♥♥♥ up and stop encouraging people not to take the damn disease seriously. "Nah, it's all overreaction, I'll go outside and start licking everyone I see, nothing could possibly go wrong."
For kicks, let's do an infection rate of 10 people.
Starting at ten infected:
10*10*10*10*10
100,000
*10*10*10*10
1,000,000,000
Hi my name is pandemic and I am ♥♥♥♥ terrifying. That's eight recursions. Eight. One billion people, infected. How many of us are on the planet? What happens when those billion people infect ten? Or, a far more likely number, 6.77? Is it a pandemic yet, Clam?

Some reason! YES.
