Post Mechs plz.
So.. Hi.

I found out about this game a handful of hours ago. I was surprised with how amusing it was just blowing stuff up with no real goal.

I was actually considering buying it, even, 'cause I felt it's going to be something awesome later on.

But there's a disturbing lack of mechs. There's robots of sorts, but no mechs.

I searched the forums for mech-related topics, but I found no mods for mechs or anything like that. Now I'm sad. Mechs are a pretty big thing to me.

So, two things I really wanna know:

1. Any mech mods that have been created/in the works? Playable mech-types, or vehicles?

2. How difficult is it to get into modding this game, say, for someone who has no experience with any sort of programming/coding?

And people can make maps, yeah? I'm running on very little sleep, so I probably overlooked it/them, but I was interested in playing on other maps but didn't see any on the forums.

.. Oh, and what's a 'gib'?

Thanks in advance. Apologies if my post was in any way confusing or annoying. I shouldn't even be awake right now. :(

- Edit -

Forget the map bit. I feel quite stupid now.

AAL, DSTech, Tek Troopers, etc etc...

Impossible until you learn how to code in Cortex Command ini.

Indeed. All you need is notepad, the MAT pallette and knowledge of ini code. And just look on scene releases for maps.
.. Oh, and what's a 'gib'?
Something that actors explode into when they die or are wounded.

It's ok, I shouldn't be awake either :)

Gibs are all over the place, I don't know where originated, butt here is what I think they are!

Quote:
Gibs- The particles, and remains of an entity when it is subject to extreme punishment.

Uses: Gore, Blood Berserking ( Blood Boner, Blood Fury, Blood Bath... etc. ) , getting YASD, realism.

Quote:
Gibbing- The verb for when you are turning into gibs.

Quote:
Instagib- The Prefix for thing that instantaneously gibs.

Example- Numgun's Instagib Rife is a hit with everyone.

Gibs come from the word giblet (the leftover pieces of a turkey or other avian that we usually don't eat), but it's become generally pronounced as "gib" instead of "jib".
In a game, the gibs are the bits that come out of stuff when it blows up. For instance, when a clone is entirely destroyed, his gibs include some fleshy bits, some blood particles, and from his legs, some metal armor plating chunks.
Modding for the game isn't too hard. In this build, most modding is done by simple variable editing. Every mod in the game is loaded through an INI file in a folder ended with ".rte" to signify that it should be loaded. A good idea to learn modding is to open up one of the files in the Cortex Command folder and just see what's inside! Make a backup and then screw around with it, you'll be able to make a few adjustments on your own. If you're still confused, visit Lord Tim's tutorials, they're very helpful. If you still have questions, leave a topic in the Mod Making forum and somebody will help you.

Thanks for the answers. Seems like a nice community here.

Those mods also look great, downloaded.

I'm about to buy the game, but before I do.. Is there anything I should do?

I was just wondering if I should uninstall the game from my computer before hand to avoid errors, or anything.

Also, I think 'gibs' is my new favorite word. :)

- Edit -

Wanted to add that when I play this game, my mouse sensitivity seems to drop a LOT.

I really only notice it on the title screen, but it kind of bothers me.

Will probably search for a fix/similar problems, but I just wanted to add that in, in case I don't find anything.

Depends on who you talk to and how you talk to them. Keep your language readable and you should not have any problems with most of us, refrain from talking back to some people and you should not have any problems with the rest.

No need. When you buy a key you simply insert your purchasing email (the one you used to buy the key) and the key into Cortex (in the "Register" menu item). Then, you've bought the game and all the limits are removed.

*gasps* DRLFF becoming a functional bigotry-free forum?!
Well we've gotten significantly better about this somehow... hmm...
I'm off to research and figure out what we did so it can be applied to other forums.
Anyway, welcome Taz, to my knowledge at least two modding projects seek to create the type of mech I believe you want some time in the future, the Brainmech Spriting Project and the The HMWIP Tau Mod (WH40K).

If you're looking for giant mechs, there's the AAL MPAM and Strike Raven (viewtopic.php?f=61&t=10661) and my Tek Annihilator(viewtopic.php?f=61&t=13622).

Modding the game is fairly easy, all you really do is change around variables. Sure, it gets pretty in-depth, but when it comes down to it, you're just changing names and numbers.

Welcome to DRL, enjoy your stay.

I don't think he would fit in a comma.

Grif isn't a random flamer, he reacts strongly to idiocy. Keep conversation intelligent and you'll get positive comments from him.

So I added an extra m. Sue me.

He doesn't respond to the content of comments. He rarely addresses the actual issue. He goes straight to the personal. That is flaming.

Wuh?
Well fair enough, he is highly critical and has high standards on communication, but he's pretty helpful to boot.
