3DSMax isn't used for kids screwing around with 3d for the first time. It's a commercial program. Disney did the entirety of Shrek with it.

but screwing around with the crazy-ass programs means you can use anything once you work it out. I was mucking around with lightwave for awhile, (because I couldn't find 3DSmax anywhere :-( ) and I found it was fairly straightforward except for textures and the crazy old-school mac layout!

Loving the... apple?

naaahh... you should have seen the first 3d stuff I made a few years ago, it was shockingly bad.

If you wanna get good at something you've gotta practice, for years if need be, I've still got loads to learn.

Really nice Bubs, I think I'm gonna start modeling too.
I suggest rounding out the feet a bit, they look blocky.

Also, could post texture maps, I'd love to see them. (If you use texture maps that is, though I don't know any other ways of texturing)

You won't see the feet up this close usually so I can't really justify the extra polys. Gotta think about performance for all those people with old PCs =]

Here is the texture map for the bodysuit. Drawn in photoshop, took about 12 hours on and off, tweaking and such.

How do you work out which parts go where when drawing that?

I think you define what areas go where in Blender. (Or any other modeling program)

it's defined by UV mapping the object, which I could tell you how to do in blender.

also bubs your textures are too stretched in areas, but overall it's still good!

Too stretched where exactly? the only problem point I can find is the crotch.

Edit: thanks for reminding me, I just fixed the crotch =]
