A start of April , what happened.
Ah What a day already, I spent 3-4 hours at around 1am to 5am thinking what to do for April fools day. I give up and went and played World of Warcraft, leaving the forums alone and thinking i should plan something for next year. Well Someone thought my lack of doing anything was not enough. If you been watching the forum for the past few hours you have noticed it was down. I first got told about this by a phone call by Data, And at first i thought one of the global mods did it for jokes. After looking at the logs I noticed over 50K posts were deleted. From there i disabled the forum and to see if it really was the person who did this. The IP of the person who did this was across the world, thus telling me the nickname i was looking at, got hacked. Anyways, we reverted to a backup that was made in the morning. And put in some password complexity, and made everyone change there password. Remember, make unique passwords. Tips for passwordsAnyways, Lets hope April fools day is done with. -WizardJames , Technical Administrator

What's up with the new mixed case rule for passwords? It's annoying, and doesn't give a significant amount of extra security to be worth the trouble.

Six character password, if you introduce the possibility of capital letters, the number of possibilities increases by a power of 6.

Look on the bright side.
We didn't lose half of the forum. This time there was a backup.

Wait, how good was the password cracker?
Seriously, my old pass was as complex as this:
4qR9rd
Does phpBB use the same salt across all fourms? Does it use MD5/SHA2/ect?

PaSSwOrD If they're just using a random chargen then it will. That's a pretty secure password, by the by. There are quite a few possible combinations.

Re: A start of April , what happened.
There are 256 different combinations of PaSsWoRd. To an automated script cracking a password, that is almost nothing.
