Post Re: D&D and such
All right, I have a dilemma. See, I've been running this game which had a pretty complex plot, and I had a setting and everything. Problem is, my players just don't give a ♥♥♥♥. One is always asking "when do we split teh l00t", and another tried to name his character Stroyent McStrogg. In addition, I have problems with people deciding that me asking them to decide on a time during the week when they can all be free most of the time means that they should plan every single goddamn other thing on that day as well, and they're constantly losing their character sheets (excel spreadsheets; how do you lose it if you can keep it in gmail or something?)
Should I just give up on my careful planning and everything and just run an episodic monster-of-the-week game? I feel like I'm being a douche if I'm trying to enforce a more intricate game than they want to play, but I really don't like the idea of giving up right before a planned turning point in the plot.
Am I just being OCD about the whole thing?

I think you should improve until they become serious.

ha this happens all the time sand rat.(especially with first timers) how many do you have in the group? also picking a specific date and time helps with these problems.(but isnt always possible as usually one person cant make it) if they start doing really odd things like laughing at guards or beating up old ladies PUNISH THEM. send them underground into deep dark jails and make them sit out while the rest of the group is questing.

That's retarded, if they're going to sit in jail the whole time they won't play. Putting someone in jail like that is just kicking them out of the group.

So in other words you have no idea either.
I think I'll continue on my current course.

well dont let them sit in jail maybe there friends will bust him out or hell bust out himself. the main reason for it is to punish them for being stupid and treat the game more like real life.

Manticore- thank you for your advice, but I don't see it relating to my problem so much as what you seem to think my problem is.
CrazyMLC- I don't quite understand how improv will make things any better. It will just make the plot more shaky and thus easier to ignore.
edit: what is the general opinion on including random pre-packaged adventures? I currently have the players in as of yet-undescribed pocket dimension in the Astral Sea, which is full of unexplored wilderness. And BEEEEEEEEEES. I could easily shove a temple to dark things better left forgotten in there.

You seriously need to plan that better. I work almost all of the time on weekdays, but my schedule is entirely flexible. Just tell me when you need me home. It's not gonna be tonight, though, as I'm off right about now.

Me and my friend are setting up a proper D&D match as of now. It's taking quite a while and finding people is proving difficult, people we know who take it seriously are rather strange and our other proper friends wont take it seriously probably.

If you have some sort of internet chat device you can all use, I'd be glad to play.

So would two of my friends.
