Post Re: DarkStorm Military Technologies - Updated 11/22/08
So I just finished beating Metal Gear Solid 4, and decided to run my mouth a little bit here.

I'm currently laughing about how I managed to accidentally create a faction that sounds like it came right out of the MGS universe. We've got clone soldiers infused with body-regulating nanomachines wearing enhancing suits that are also infused with nanomachines. Furthermore, at the end of MGS 2, you fight a hoard of Tengu soldiers, which I honestly had forgotten all about when I made my mod here, even though I'd played MGS 2 long before coming here. Now to top it all off, I'm here talking about developing a complex system of CQC, similar to MGS 3 and 4, and also the customization system I have planned is practically identical to the one present in MGS 4, which I only played recently after I had come up with the idea for that system. Now all I need is somebody named "Raiden." Seriously...

Not that any of this discourages me. I'm trying to make a stealth faction after all. MGS would be the series to look towards for both technical and stylistic inspiration. Now that I've acknowledged this fully, I suppose I'll shamelessly steal some more ideas here and there.

I guess the only inspiration I can think of outside of MGS that I know I've had so far is the Mega Man X series, since I kinda proportioned the Shogun armor like a MMX character (HUGE lower legs).

all the megaman series have huge lower limbs. personally, my favorite is zero, but thats just me.
also, feel free to rip off mgs as much as you like, i love those games, especially 2, and the systems behind 4. if you can replicate them, i'll be a happy man.

actually, the Zero, ZX, and Legends series have relatively more proportional lower legs. I guess the technology got streamlined over time. Or is just nonexistent in Legends.

Well, as things stand, thats pretty much the plan. I just have to wait for more Lua features.

swoot, looks like ill be happy then.
also, looking over pictures in the intros and stuff (haven't played the games in a few years, so it will be a nostalgic ride herein) the boots and whatnot in zero are way smaller, you're right. they dont look it in the sprites though, which are what i spent most of the games looking at. you just reminded me how much i <3 the new megaman art though thanks. I've noticed the MGS similarities for a while now and thought that was all on purpose.

Metal Gear Rex pl0x. I'd love to have a railgun capable of firing a nuclear warhead. Actually, an MGR actor would be possible to make, just really hard. Maybe even a functioning radar dish, where if it gets shot off, the cockpit opens and there's an actor who can be shot easily o;

Okay, I didn't say this was actually an MGS mod. Don't get too crazy. If I make anything big, it'll be the Oni. And that will take its inspiration more from Evangelion.

sort of good to hear. do you ever do concept art, or is it all in your head?
i'd love to see concepts of what you visualise the oni being like :P

Quite obviously it's not an MGS mod, I never requested for it to be put in the faction, though =P Anyways, about how big would the Oni be? Larger then the Shogun, obviously, more like around the size of an MPAM?

isnt it still a tengu?
in that case, wont it be maybe 1.6 times as tall (assuming double length limbs for angrymonkeyrage)?
not quite MPAM.

No, it isn't a tengu. Tengu are normal-sized clones with nanomachines. Oni are giants who probably look a tad inhuman without their armor.

MPAM-sized is probably about the biggest they'll be. The thing is though, you'll usually find them hunched over. They don't tend to stand up straight.

my bad, read through the post where i thought you compared oni, shogun and shinobi units and their mindsets, but it was just the latter two. cool cool. giant raging monkey is fine.
ooh, is the kitsune human sized? or larger, smaller? i do like it when units are slightly larger or smaller than your average human, livens up the battlefield.

The monkey may be raging, but why? What would make it so angry as to forget the cold, metallic, rigid training that all clones go through, and start swinging a tank half it's size around as a club instead? It doesn't make sense that something with a receiver instead of a reptilian(spinal) brain would get that angry. It would get the same training as a shogun, and that would be on H2H fighting. It would not go completely mad because a little man with a lump of metal stung it and hurt it's ears with a bang.

I'd think it would be simulated rage, like when the brain controls it it releases a bunch of hormones to make it utterly smash everything in its path... Meh, follow The Rule of Awesome. If it's awesome it needn't make sense. I think an MPAM sized super clone in darkstorm armour rampaging around the battlefield throwing tanks at things qualifies...
