Nothing helped me learn really except my dad, a good way to learn how to draw things is too trace a picture, that way it gives you a feel of how to draw it. Then draw your own.

practice only gets you so far, if you want to draw good you have to also learn a little about anatomy, how machines work, ecosystems etc. depending on what you want to draw (even if you are drawing cartoon characters, you need to know what features you can exaggerate and how, or how they will look from a different perspective) the amount of learning you need to do on the subjects is whatever level of detail that you want to draw. I've never actually heard or seen anyone else give which I find kind of odd.

So if you think your drawing skills aren't great I suggest you learn a little about basic anatomy, perspective and a little colour theory. Of course just knowing those things won't make you a good artist, you will have to learn how to use your medium yourself (this is the practice, practice, practice bit).

Also I hate it when the only advice people give you is "practice, practice, practice", even if you do something a thousand times and still do not see what is wrong with it you will NOT improve, however people tend to feel bad about giving really harsh critique and don't actually tell you if something looks wrong (I'm the worst for this).

So I typed gun into google, found one I liked and tried to draw it...after 10 agonizing tries I finally got one I liked. So what do you guys think?
