They're still the same basic shape and size. I don't really care, but the sooner we can get some decent 8 sized mecha the better.
(8 is the largest size or some such, the second number is the assigned usage, technically you could name any 2 sized experimental suit the XV22. I think the assigned numbers were 2-Experimental, 5-Stealth, 8-Heavy Fire Support. But then the XV8s have a bunch of other random stuff like spine mounted smart missiles and sensor arrays, each warranting an individual assigning. It's in the lists if you're curious...)
Woah, tangent (or tangerine as me and some other guys call it, that's a funny story th~)
TANGENT!

(X)(V)(A)(B):

XV is not the only designation they use, XV is used for I believe Field Use, and Powered Armor.
After all, there is an XT-22 which is a small, 2 maned vehicle.

The Numbers Are described, 1 designates a single, man-sized unit, Such as the XV15, which is the size of a normal fire-warrior with body armor. Note, it uses 2 hands for the burst cannon.

2 Is typically 2-man sized, or doubled armor, Notice, the XV 25, is larger than the 15, and can wield the burst-cannon 1-handed, while the 15 can not.

The 8, designates a crisis suit size. also, it is interesting to know, that the XV 88, is technically, the XV110, but I'll get to that in a moment.

The 2nd number in the XV(A)(B) does designate a description of the unit.
2 is experimental, 5 is stealth Infantry, 0 is independent (XV8 has no 2nd designation) and 8 is either heavy weapons, artillery, or slow moving. you where correct on this fact, because in the tau codex, it DOES mention, in the XV22 entry, that the first 2 designates the size, and the 2nd designates its use. Its size is 2 and its use is experiment.

Now the other thing, why the XV88 is the XV110.
Tau have 3 fingers and a thumb. 4 digits per hand. Not only that, But in the codex, it DOES specifically show that they don't use Base-10, but rather base 8.

Base 8 means this
0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 20.

So 8 is really, 10, so the first 8 (80) becomes 10 (100) and the second 8, becomes 10,
80 + 8 = 88, 100 + 10 = 110. 110 = 88. Horray different number sequences!

Now if only we had a race that uses base 13. It also makes note that the vespids might actually natively use hexadecimal at some point I think. (i'd swear that its in a description for the vespids somewhere... something about there wings)

This is also all just extra info, totally useless for making the mod, but it is usefull for if you where to do writing with the tau fonts... I have there font pack installed, I can type in tau, and upload it. freaky block things.

Hey I got the rail gun part working, but I need help with something.

MOSRotating, Mass 200, Velocity 110.

I need a gib impulse value so that it will gib on doors, and any terrain harder than sand, but NOT actors.

IE It will fly through 3 actors standing in a line, but if it hits a bunker piece, or a door, or dirt, it will blow up.

Can someone do the math for me?

I'm not sure it can be done... my new Sniper Cannon works about the same way, and it seems pretty random whether or not it explodes. Actually it seems to explode most often on actors, and less so on terrain... except debris, which is softer and it just loves to explode after touching.

Gib impulse limit = X

X < (Mass*Velocity)/?Density? then gib.

Right? so 200*110 = 22000 so the gib impulse must be less then 22000/weakest material to gib on, but more than 22000/sand

I hope... Does this sound right?

I dunno, you can mine out if you like, the mass and speed are almost the same... whether or not it detonates seems to mostly be luck, even shooting at the same material sometimes it explodes and sometimes not. I think the game actually calculates it based on the exact shape of the material and how it hits; on my Zomborg, the sloped headplate lasts longer than the vertical-facing jaw, even though they're the same material and the plate has half the gibwoundlimit as the jaw.

actually no...

200 mass, 110 velocity... Max force = 22000...
I set the gib impulse to 21999....
It gibs on actors instantly. it ALSO has a problem with shooting to close... if it hits something to close to the muzzle, it either does NOTHING, or bounces...

I have it set to shoot a low mass TDE with a triggerdelay of 1, which gibs into an MOSR, with that mass and gib impulse. If I mess with the atom groups so it flys through things, will the first TDE stop having that problem, or will it get slowed down by not existing?

also, like the sprite?

I made it by cutting apart a flack cannon and the shotgun.

Flack cannon, copy, Vertical flip, Stack, change 18 pixels, copy the barrels, Horisontal flip, re-attach, edit about 9 pixels, change the details/shading on the barrel to match, use the shot-gun pumpy-thing to make the rest... copy and flip the handle on the flack cannon to make the arm mount.... thats all I did. I think it looks damn nice. I tried re-colloring it, but the CC Pallet doesn't support ANY of the colors I WANT to use.

FNORD Tau are the replacement for squats FNORD

thats almost DOUBLE the length, and IS double the height of the flack cannon. its HUGE.... vanilla actors can barely hold it!
