   |   Re: Dwarf FortressIts harder for me to play with custom tilesets because some characters are used for a ton of different things. So I took some characters from a custom ones and replace the ones that are only used once, like walls, levers, and bones. Its working pretty well.

   |   Re: Dwarf FortressYou know that was from way back in April , right? Anyways, next update is going to kick ass and take names. All kinds of new stuff, which look to make adventure mode even more awesome. Now, instead of just glancing off, your attacks can slice off skin/useless areas! So much more depth. Paving the way for entire paragraphs describing what the creatures look like. ...And the required statement: We can adjust how boingly our boingle's boingle is. And we can make it grow. And shrink. And all kinds of stuff. The only time, since the game became 3D, that save compatibility has been broken. Course, the actual 2D-3D switch broke save compatibility too, but...

   |   Re: Dwarf FortressBehold the Czar of Inkydepths, nice build, but I'd go with a larger vault, and upgrade the Cloud Maker into a Portcullis, reuse the pass, and separate the Pass from the Archer's Lookout, and make a hole in the middle of it, so you can have your warriors get a 360 lookout of the inside.

   |   Re: Dwarf FortressCoded One wrote: What is this "Boingle" you speak of?Err, my bad, "borgle", not boingle. Toady One wrote: 11/11/2008: 1078. Bit more messing with bp relationships. I also put appearance modifiers in the raws (though descriptive paragraphs have to wait until wounds are in progress). The appearance modifiers that should have an effect on size, like height, do -- in fact, this is the only way to get a size variation, so if a dwarf is wide for a dwarf or a human is tall for a human, they'll have a corresponding size modification and this is how variation of the size variable works. Other modifiers are just cosmetic. The types of the appearance modifiers are hard-coded and will be until I work out how to handle descriptive paragraphs for custom modifiers (like how borgly a borgle's borgle is, for those that want to add that sort of thing to their mods), which won't be done for this release. This time around, the goal is to be able to give distinguishing descriptions of each of your dwarves and your adventurer.

Fort needs to be run good or you'll kill everyone, or make a tantrum spiral, or you'd be screwed over by monsters or HFS. Adventurer, get some meat shields, raise your skills, and then kill elven villages.

   |   Re: Dwarf FortressAnd it is, bursting peoples heads with water or drowning someone is always a good source of entertainment.
The mostly predominant issue is the learning curve, which is about as steep as it gets when considering a video game.

As for myself, I'm going through it all once again given the nearly 14 months that passed since my last fortress and I still haven't figured out how to dig between, or simply navigate through, the z levels.
