You know how annoying it is to have to wait for all of your mods to load right :cry: ? And you can't bear to delete any of them, so I think it would be better if there was a button on the main menu for Cortex Command where it would access a site where you can directly upload your .rte's to :D . Then, you just click on a mod there and it will stay until you quit the game or unload it. There could also be a download button so that, if you want, it could be put in your .rte directory.

There was a 'modshop' sometime ago, just activate, (un)check it to enable/disable rtes.

I also meant that you could download more mods from it, not just disable and enable mods. It should also come with it, built into the main menu.

Wow, two people who failed to read the post.
Chances are, that won't be implemented. It sounds interesting, but it just doesn't fit well. If it works, I'd support it fully.

If people started using the ModDB more (once it's working properly) THOR could probably set it up to be compatible with a downloading program.

Yeah, but I personally was more interested with the whole "loading mods while already in the game" thing. That would be nice, save time too. Like, you select the ones you want installed in the installer, hit the install button and bam. You could download mods and use them without having to totally restart CC. Plus, you could use only the mods you wanted and, again, not have to restart CC.

I guess so. I'm talking more about an in-game mod installer that resets itself when the game closes, uninstalling all mods. Then, you start the game, go to the mods menu option, select which ones you want, hit accept, let them load and boom. Then, if you download something while playing, like in window mode, you can install it right then and continue.

And, there could also be a favorites button on each mod where it saves the link onto some kind of favorites bar in the modshop. To do that, it would require your Datarealms account.

That would be a pain in the ass and appeal to apparently three people or so.

HEY GUYS RATHER THAN USE THE PREEXISTING METHOD THAT'S WORKED FINE FOR YEARS LET'S OVERENGINEER A COMPLICATED INGAME SYSTEM THAT WILL FURTHER CONSUME YOUR RAM!

A++ idea.

I can see how you're justified, Grif. Really. Allow me to respond in a civil fashion.
This is merely a suggestion. If it gets implemented, it would be nice. How it would add lag, you've got me there. I'm saying that you get in, THEN you let it load the mods that you've selected, play a match, load more, new match, go back and maybe mess with it some more. It wouldn't add lag because it would be the only thing happening. As for the downloader, that's just insane. If you read what I said, I'm saying that if you download a mod (See: Normally), you can enable it and use it without restarting. It probably won't get implemented because of the sheer amount of work, but hey, guess what. It's this new thing called voicing our thoughts.
I'm predicting Kelas coming here and torpedoing this and giving me a warning, but whatever. I'll save it.

I guess SOMEONE could make a Mod Downloader and setup Application but i find that browsing for mods through the forums to be more convenient than a specific site for mods.

TL;DR: Agree with Grif on some parts.

Exactly the true meaning I was about to say.
The idea is silly, these mod-based forums work just fine. Although the gray area of early WIPs that can end up in either mod making or mod releases can make for some disorganization, which could be improved upon. And it's a bit unreliable and inconsistent in hosting, and lots of things wind up lost. But a whole new in-game thing is absurd and pointless.

But perhaps setting up reliable and consistent hosting system and improving organization would be things to consider, since there should be many more game players and mod users in the future.

The ModDB is somewhat like your idea, but not unnecessarily in-game. And it's having trouble taking off the ground as is.
Perhaps interest to improve it further relies on it's popularity, and it's popularity relies on it's improvement. Or maybe there's completely different reasons that it's not yet in mainstream use.
I dunno.
