Macs are good for images and music but I prefer windows for games....

Back OT: Also, I thought there were compatability issues with Vista... are they still there with Windows 7? I remember seeing something about how they were trying to keep it compatible 'cos of people complaining about vista...

Crossover is pretty good as well I hear, with extra support for gaming or some such...

It seems counter-intuitive that in order to run games on it they encourage you to install their rival's software.

That way you get the downsides of windows on a mac when the point of getting a mac was to avoid all the downsides of windows.

That being said if I was going to get a computer just for working I'd get a mac for sure.

The thing is that you aren't installing Boot Camp to get the negatives of Windows. You're installing it because the software developers cant be bothered with OS X ports.

And I assure you this will and is currently changing. Blizzard was one of the big proponents of architecture and operating-system agnostic software design. All of their games from 1.0 Retail (be it Warcraft, Starcraft, or WoW) were and are OS X compatible.

As Apple's market penetration increases, you'll see more developers jumping headlong into Mac development. DRL is essentially a one-man operation, and he was capable of seeing the writing on the wall.

If only there were more unified neutral formats that all developers used instead of brand loyalty affecting compatibility.

Vista was and is a Windows 7 botched release. 7 is all that Vista is but more polished and with a lot more thought put into the release. I'm looking forward to my beta. I also find it funny that the Microsoft link failed while the torrent is currently proceeding at 200kb/s.

Trouble is I paid a fortune for Vista on release, and I won't be able to justify spending it on 7, especially if Microsoft makes good on their promise of new releases every 18 months. I'll probably end up getting whatever they're using in 5 years time.

Yeah, but personally, I'm tired of using a 10 year old operating system. XP is ready to be laid to rest. All Vista did was keep XP going past its expiration date, and the only reason that didn't turn out horribly is because XP isn't shitty.

Which brings me to my point of ire. I can't get a hold of a beta, MS's download server still isn't working. And I'm too skiddish to get a pirate copy of an OS. Even a beta. Just seems too flimsy.

Which brings me to this question. Anybody booting W7 with GRUB? Does it work OK?

XP is only seven years old. I'm gonna go ahead and burn an XP and a Windows 7 cd today and load W7. XP cd is in case I dislike it :3

I got an extra product key for the English version, just download it from somewhere else and I'll PM it to you.

no need for using a key to use W7 legally, you can just skip the part where you must enter the key.
