Post Cortex Command RTE Installer for Macs
Hello there.
Since for now installing a mod on Mac OS X requires to dive into the app itself (unless you did a shortcut to the folder, which actually requires you to dive into the app), I created a little AppleScript droplet which lets you just drop the .rte folder on the icon to move it automatically in the correct directory.
The problem is (an app without any problem is a boring app), there is currently the version number written in the app's name. What means, I need to create a new version of the script for each release! This is not a real problem but hey, I wanted to warn. And with some luck, next versions will come without this strange mention in the app's title.

Anyway, the file (second version) is linked to the post.

I haven't worked with OS X that much, but I figured that this should be applicable for it too. When you say "dive into the app", it sounds as if there's a program you go into. Sorry if I miss my mark here, but isn't it a folder that you drop the mods into? If that's true, and you mac users have a .rar unzipping program, isn't it easier not to download the archive at all and just open it temporarily and unzip it straight to your CC folder without having to do anything else?

The Mac "Explorer.exe" can't do that.
It's one of the many many downfalls of OSX.

Which would be a serious downgrade tbh, unless you play no games whatsoever.
There's a MASSIVE incompatibility unless you use Bootcamp.
Which is still pretty much pointless.
And not to mention completely unusable unless you have a Windows disc anyway.

there is a folder, it's just that apps are treated as single packages so modifying the program data requires some extra clicks.

in most OSes the binary is inside the program folder

in OS X it "is" the program folder, unless you "dive inside" as stated

but it's not a limitation of OS X, it's just something being done differently.

Can a Mod please sticky this thang so as to allow greater use of mods by mac peeps without much effort?

Wow, this is the epitome of laziness.

Well, in fact, the best rar unarchiver (for me) is The Unarchiver; this app integrates with the system, it's a "double-click it's unrared" approach. So it's more convenient to unrar then to move the folder, than to unrar it directly at some location.
And, yeah, in Mac OS X applications are actually folders, containing all the app's resources (icon, binary, buttons, musics, interface parts…) which are more or less protected (it's up to the developer). Usually parts than can be added to the app (like plugins for Photoshop, or mods for Cortex Command) are to be dropped in a folder named after the application, located in a "Library" folder of the HD.
Since for Cortex Command (for now — that's the first Mac version, it will probably evolve) rte are in the app package itself, you need to open the app's bundle by right-clicking on it, then going into two folders: that's not very convenient.

By default, OS X automatically unpacks compressed archives. I still dont quite understand the point of this utility.

But it doesn't natively supports .rar format, does it?
And The Unarchiver supports dozens of other formats, it's really handy.

Yes I do, however since I had The Unarchiver long before, I didn't notice the new support, then thanks for the tip.
Anyway The Unarchiver is still useful, I think.

Edit: I tried opening some random rar file with BOMArchiveHelper, it didn't get it quite right. Its compatibility is probably only partial.

Here is a new version. It now opens CC's folder when you double-click it, and has a new name: I replaced "Cortex Command" by "CC", so it doesn't take the priority over Cortex Command in Spotlight anymore.
