Post Crashing when starting a new Campaign
Hey guys,

Fresh install, default settings.

Started Cortex Command, started a new Campaign, chose the Tutorial level.

Everything loads and just before the actual gameplay screen shows up, the program crashes.

No error messages or anything - the window just vanishes. Happens on Fullscreen and Windowed modes.

Using the latest ATI Radeon HD 3870 driver, on a WSXGA 1280x800 monitor.
Windows XP SP3
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
2GB Ram

Uninstalled. Reinstalled. Still happens.

Now what?

Is there a debugging logfile that I can examine/submit?

I recorded a video of the crash

I know this is totally off-topic, but aren't you the guy that had that amazing CC art awhile back?

Does skirmish work, or is it just missions?

OH! Skirmish lets me in! I can place my "base", place a robot - but if I hold down the Right Mouse Button, the little popup menu appears and the game instantly crashes again.

No warning errors or anything - the window simply vanishes.

Furthermore, I can use the SCENE EDITOR - I can place robots, and if I hold down the Right Mouse Button, the popup menu appears (game hasn't crashed yet) but as soon as I drag in a direction to choose an option, then it crashes again.

It sounds like something making Lua crash your computer.

The missions are Lua driven and so crash instantly, and the skirmish activities uses Lua to setup enemy spawns, so it crashes when you move your mouse to start the game or something.

I could be wrong though, and I've no idea how to fix this.

Is there any way to bring up a Lua debugger, error log, or otherwise gather useful information for the developers?

Oh, by the way, the crash is limited to CC - the rest of the OS seems unaffected - my computer continues to run as if nothing happened, so it's not like it's a complete system meltdown :)

I know this probably won't help, but it seems to fix other random problems, soooo:

Try moving the CC folder to the desktop, you never know if that'd work...

Hey at this point I'm pretty desperate, and will try anything.

It didn't work, but nothing else blew up.

Situation remains the same.

Have you got the latest version of the .NET framework?

Good question.

.NET was out of date - I was using 3.5, so I updated it to 3.5 SP1, then restarted XP.

Unfortunately, it didn't fix it.

Anyways I can go into the editor and spam robots everywhere (well, just buy a ton of em) and the game and its physics seem to work - it's just that when I hold down the right mouse button the popup menu appears (no icons on it) and then it instantly crashes.

I also tried uninstalling, then reinstalling. Still no go!

N-n-n-next contestant!

Holy ♥♥♥♥. It looks like you've got a problem that's actually a problem, rather than someone breaking something.

Try uhh... ♥♥♥♥ dude... try drawing art until Data decides to fix it for you? :3

Does it work on any other user accounts?

If it does it might be a permissions thing.
