Re: Cortex Command - Two Computers, 1 Game
nope, tis just LAN. LAN isn't perfect, my computer, wired or wireless, still has a ping of about 18 (on other games) when connected to the other machine in my network (whihc is 2 metres away, if that.).
It's a nice trick though, although I'd like a way to stop my buddy on the end being able to muck around with my controls.

iirc, RDC only comes with XP Pro. But there are tons of other alternatives to Windows RDC.

Re: Cortex Command - Two Computers, 1 Game
Whoa, damn. I didn't realize how old this thread was upon my first post here. (I just followed a link here from what was a recent post at the time, and assumed that this thread was also recent. Go figure.)
Now everyone's going to want me dead because of that slip-up, and especially after this post now that this thread hasn't been replied to in over a week, meaning yet another bump.
Anyway, the reason for that first reply was that I want to figure out how the hell to configure Remote Desktop or a similar app to get Cortex Command or any other game working over a LAN like that. Unfortunately, no replies have helped me in that regard. Maybe I should've specified that explicitly the first time around.
...Wait...WAIT A FREAKING MOMENT! Remote Assistance is NOT Remote Desktop! It's a hell of a lot easier to use, too. I just couldn't find the shortcut at first per directions on the first page-it's Start→All Programs→Maintenance→Windows Remote Assistance, not Start→All Programs→Remote Assistance! (This is under Vista, though-it turns out that the latter is for XP.)
Why the hell couldn't I figure that out earlier? Oh well, time to put this to good use before everyone here starts the massive murder over a few forum posts.
And just to make the Start Menu directions much easier to read for everyone:
Vista: Start→All Programs→Maintenance→Windows Remote Assistance XP: Start→All Programs→Remote Assistance
There. That's it. Question's answered, I'm done and out of this thread now that I know what the hell I'm doing here to get this to work.

Yes, I just bumped my own thread 4 days.
It took all that just to say what's in the bold? You might as well tell us if you got it to work and how well it does (if it did work on vista). (I want to know)

Re: Cortex Command - Two Computers, 1 Game
Heya everyone, that's going to be my 1st post, so I'll try At first, the game is awesome. (Damn, no multiplayer!! But read next...) I was really sad when I found out that there's no multiplayer, but now I found the way, yep . Some time ago I played Cortex with my brother, via Radmin. (Remote Administrator program, allows to control other's PC if be straight) So we played really nice, there was about 25-30 fps (In big battles - not lower than 23-25)... Our internet connection is 7.5Mbps (Not LAN, the 'True' internet... And my Bro is few hundreds kilometers away), EVERYTHING works FINE, we played almost 3 hours... It's awesome. 1ne of the awesomest games I ever played =) Thanx to DataRealms for it, and to the whole community too . And, if ya want to play Cortex via Radmin, I can help with setting up But not now, I wanna sleep Sorry about reviving an old topic, I just haven't seen topics about multiplayer...

Re: Cortex Command - Two Computers, 1 Game
Look, someone was talking here about a 2-3 fps gameplay... So I think 25-30 is normal And about 'Lies, blah blah'... Why don't we try to play with each other to proof? It's up to you. I just said that I found the way to play Cortex multiplayer (Not perfect but anyways...) P.S. - What's the smiley? o_O

Oh hell... It must be bug xD (Or local network): So next is with a different server (I think it's normal): It's always not what they say (Where's 7.5 here? xD) And about smilies... I just get used to 'em Internet multiplayer isn't a wonder, it just needs nice speed to play.

You can probably do this with StreamMyGame as well, and there's no lag whatsoever if your connection is good enough.

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM, you aren't supposed to ignore the forum stickies. http://www.datarealms.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=10846I wasn't really being serious about the internet play thing but you can put your serious face on and act like a ♥♥♥♥ making witty comments here and there if you like, just be sure to brush your teeth after. Oh and yes, putting stupid amounts of stickies in your post makes you look like a fool. @SapientWolf: How well does that work?
